Ok so while reading about different fighters you have guys like Pep Greb Moore Saddler ect who have a very high amount of recorded fights. Truly amazing. How tough how these guys must have been physically and mentally is just amazing. Then you read about guys like Fitz ..Dilion..Zivic ect who claim to have well over 300! How accurate do you believe these claims to be? Fitz seems to have kept a somewhat legit record. What do you make of this? Who claims to have the most fights that aren't recorded. I know I'm missing quite a few here.
Len Wickwar has the most on boxrec. Wilde claimed to have a crazy number, something like 700. I've seen quite a few claimed to have had over 300 including Australian Billy McCarty (fought Fitz, Jim Hall and Nonpareil Dempsey), and Hank Griffen. If you count exhibitions, the 300 fight claim by Fitz is about right though, so that's possible.
Apparently the fighter with the second most fights behind Wickmar was George Marsden. Wickmar and Marsden also had the same manager (George Biddles) according to wiki, and they died on exactly the same day. I guess Biddles was a manager who liked to keep his fighters busy (as f***)
http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/75439 I had wondered if there was anyone with triple digit wins and losses.
So the two boxers with the most recorded fights ever, died on the same day? Wow, that is some kind of trivia!
http://coxscorner.tripod.com/dixon.html His official record shows 158 bouts, but his record fails to record the actual number of fights he had as many were staged in dance halls and theatres around the country. Dixon’s manager who traveled with him claimed, before his death, that Dixon had over 800 fights sometimes fighting up to 15 times a week (See BD. Vol. 3 p. 7) One issue of the National Police Gazette indicates he had over 1,000.
