So would you want people to know your the best at your job or would you want to make as much money doing what you do?

True and it's a good system, however they (Boxrec) give too many points for wins or however it works; and sometimes the point system would lead one to think that there's miles & miles between some at the top versus the rest.

    far, far too much disparity,
using the same understanding they have to bring fighters closer together somehow because the gaps at the top in reality aren't that wide.

I think stringing together several victory's over the best fighters in your division is the best thing you can do in boxing today. Like Pacman, Mayweather, Calzaghe (last several fights), Klitschko's (last several years), Andre Ward (has just started this type of streak). I think its who you beat and how many dominant wins you can put together over the course of time. With that will come at least some alphabet titles eventually.

Not necessarily. I'm an accountant and the head of accounting in our company makes more money than me and the other accountants but he is hardly the best accountant here. Maybe he knew some imporant people, maybe he was in the right place at the right time and got the position due to luck. Whatever the case, the best people are not always paid the most.

Sure money is important but it's just one aspect. Floyd Mayweather sometimes claims he only cares about money, but I think it's just an act, a character. It's pretty clear to me that he really cares about being respected too.
