    Dear all,

I am going to implement a simple software which may be helpful in predicting boxing fights contests. Of course it's made for a fun - I realize that I cannot create an extremely advanced platform with a great number of analytics and experts involved.

The tool will compare some fighter details. The most simple example of such detail is a style of fighting:
    • swarmer
    • boxer
    • slugger
Everyone knows that in general a boxer wins over a slugger, a slugger owns swarmer, and a swarmer often hurts boxer. So if we have a fighter who is a slugger and who has 80% wins over swarmers there is a huge chance that he is successfull against another swarmer in his next match.
I thought of analyzing of the following abilities:
    • punching power
    • chin
    • stamina
    • balance
    • speed (on their feet)
    • speed (of blows)
Apart from that I am thinking of:
    • ring experience
    • last 5 wins percentage
What do you think about this idea? What other important measures should I add here? (again - I can only add the most critical ones cause I do not want my model to grow really complex)

    Regards

Lateral movement, quick feet doesn't mean you move well, just means you can move quickly in the wrong direction lol.

Counter punching, plenty of fighters seem to lack this ability. Particularly an issue if you fight more defensively on the back foot.

Defence - For example guys using a high guard will benefit against fighters who throw straight punches but guys that throw hooks and upper cuts will find ways around the high guard with ease. Shoulder roll with take away opponents aggressive opponents right hand but suffers against southpaws and movers.

Stance - southpaw, orthodox or switch hitter

Best punch - For example if you have a good right hand you'll do well vs southpaws, if you have a good uppercut you'll do well vs swarmers who duck to come in.

Home advantage/House fighter. Whether its USA, UK, Germany or wherever else, this has shown to be a huge factor, not just in fights which go the distance either.

BTW thanks in advance for building the model that will one day make me rich!

    Thanks for your all suggestions!

Height - for sure it's important. However shoulder range is even more important... don't you think?
Heart - yes I agree. The heart counts in. I guess it may be called 'aggression level' (it's not exactly the same, but it fits my model's purposes)
Lateral movement - ok. Or maybe better just 'movement'.
Counter punching - is this really so critical? I think I am going to skip that for now.
Defense and best punch - that's a good shot, I like it. Added.
Stance - I do not know how it happened that I missed so critical measure. Added.
Testosterone - they said that there are 2 groups among professionals: those who's got caught and those who has not yet. However who can tell for sure what the truth is? :)
Home advantage - ok, the world is not ideal. However I suppose it will be hard to implement this measure in the algorithm. What's the advantage of being 'at home'? It matters if the fight goes full distance only, so the probability of the KO or TKO should be calculated as well...

@JoffJoff: when you are rich do not hesitate to send me a Maserati ;)

Ya good list for tangibles, but intangibles play just as big a role if not bigger. Can't quantify them.

Larry Merchant used to say. “Younger, hungrier, stronger usually wins.” Or something like that.

I’d count those, plus conditioning, how much time a fighter had to prepare, and their proper weight class.

Also judges prefer certain styles. That is definitely a factor. As are bought judges.
