Obviously he wouldn't have beaten roy but roy wouldn't fight him and many other's at the time, infact people who have watched boxing for more than a few months know that roy jones got the very same **** calzaghe has got for not fighting the best, yet now he seems absolved of it and calzaghe still gets the raw end of the deal.

exactly, that's the kind of anti-american bs that i was talking about. winky wright is one of the best defensive boxers period, but apparently the fact that he isn't british takes away from his ranking.

Oh I remember the stick Jones used to get, have no fear on that one. A lot of it was because he talked about moving up to heavy and fighting Douglas and then backed out of it. After that he couldn't do no right, despite the fact he cleared out the 175 division year in year out. Take a look at the fighters he fought and find me defences he made that were comparable to Kid Fire McIntyre, or Manfredo, or most of Joes other fights? Jones still gets this **** about fighting milkmen and postmen and the Calzaghe fans are all crying saying "Joe's not fought bums, he has beaten Eubank, Lacy and Kessler you know"

For ****s sake, comparisons of Jones and Calzaghe are ridiculous, on EVERY level.

One of the most under-rated fighters ever, in my opinion. The Brits should know better with Winky as he fought over here a few times in his early career and Jim Watt has waxed lyrical about Winky for ages. Calzaghe is in the top 5 for chin and defense a lot on that thread, yet he's been on the floor a couple of times to bums....ludicrous.

I seem to remember every time that monster thread looked like dying "someone" would bump it again, wouldn't they Drex?

It took a server crash to kill that ****er, and even now it'll never be forgotten.

Toney's career took a dip after the Jones fight so that rematch didn't make sense for a long while.

Hopkins lost a pretty one-sided fight, and seemed happy to stay at MW until recently.

DM was as much at fault for that one never taking place, and who really thinks he would have won? Not against prime Roy anyway. I agree that I would have liked to see it, but I wouldn't hold Roy Jones solely responsible for it never happening.

couldn't agree more; the people who don't like him always say the same thing "he's boring, he just stands there", which is code for "i hate technical fighters"

I don't hold any of them against roy but people give fighters to much **** on these sites and then overlook whatever they want alot of the time.

Rematched Toney?? Criticising Jones for that would be like criticising Calzaghe for not rematching Lacy, do you want to go down that road? Toney never won a round, why rematch him :huh

Same goes for Hopkins, Jones owned him one-handed - and he made the 60-40 offer and Hopkins didn't take it even though it'd have been the biggest purse of his career. I like Hopkins and don't think he's a ducker but if he was serious about rematching Jones 60-40 was a ****ing good deal.

As for DM - don't make me laugh, Jones KO inside 3 rounds.

Yes, he does just "stand there" yet he never seems to take much punishment does he :yep Toney is cut from the same cloth only he carried bombs too. If Wright was a power-puncher it's frightening how good he'd have been.

That much is true, but certain people go too far the other way and give fighters a lot more credit than they actually deserve. Calzaghe at this moment definately falls into that category.
