De La Hoya as a boxer epitomises the state of US boxing as a whole Overrated, past their best, money grabbing frauds His poor discipline and lack of focus outside the ring (cross-dressing is just one example) sums up the American heavies
USA: Population - 301,139,947 Current World Champions - 14 United Kingdom: Population - 60,776,238 Current World Champions - 8 Comparatively, the UK is a nation of champions. :yep
See, here's the deal. Americans don't give a **** about where a guy is from, maybe a little, but it doesn't matter in the end. Americans care about one thing, we only will root for guys we've seen. This is for any sport, we don't give a **** about guys overseas who won't fight here so we can see them... if it's not happening in the States, they don't really care. Guys get pissed when their team drafts a Euro in the NBA, but as soon as that guy starts playing good, it's open arms. I'd argue that every country is guilty of the same thing. We've just got the money over here to make mega fights happen, and unless guys from another country come here, they ain't getting those fights, because Americans won't pay for what they don't know. Why do you think Valero wants so badly to fight in the States.. you don't see his ass clamoring to fight in the UK. You guys wouldn't accept him, that's how you guys are. We would. Big differance.
Some Americans don't care that is true, but it isn't the whole story. The term Eurobum isn't used by Europeans is it? I don't want to get into a my country versus your country argument, as I have stated in earlier posts in this thread. I'll keep saying what I think and that is Flags, Fans and Anthems don't do the fighting.
Indeed. But they also cause the most pointless arguments atsch Personally I prefer to like a fighter for what he can do, not the country he was born.
I dunno. I will always root for our boys But then I still love boxing, and play silly buggars getting streams at 4am to watch non-UK fighters

That is an American term, for sure. The reason it's used is because throughout history there has been paper champs in Europe (especially Germany, France, Italy, etc) where they have great records but have never fought anyone of any kind of talent. They hold belts, but won't leave their country or take on big fights against legit guys. Usually when they leave that comfort spot they lose, thus a Eurobum. The term is usually reserved for guys noone has seen fight, and since most boxing fans in the US have not seen most Euros fight the term get's misused on some quality guys, but the fact still remains that the US is the Mecca of boxing, the glam, the glitz, the money, and the noteritiy is all here in the States, in Vegas and Atlantic City. You come here when you've made it or want to make it. Some guys do quite well sitting in the UK or Germany and not coming to the US, but to expect US fight fans to accept them as serious talents without ever being seen is a bit much. Some, if not most, of the best fighters fighting in the US are not American.
You only take that attitude at times like this when the USA is not dominant. When the USA was dominant in boxing, you would tell us at any opportunity. No need to deny it, we all know it's true. The same goes for any other sport and any other aspect of life for that matter. Your attitude changs according to the circumstances. At the moment boxing is "a world game...blah blah" and Americans "accept anybody.. blah blah" simply because you have don't have much of your own to get excited about. American's invented the concept of "flip flopping". :yep
