I'm 6'1 being generous.

I walked by Lamon Brewster, who is listed at 6'2. I was taller.

I met Paul Williams, who is listed at 6'1. I was noticeably shorter.

Some I think are suspect:

Mike Tyson's height
Tyson Fury's height
Wilder's height
Mayweather's height (definitely not 5'8)
Canelo's weight
Luis Ortiz's age :)

Also, was Tyson's neck size really over 20 inches?

Bob Arum quote re: the Hagler v Duran Matchup:
"I saw both of them standing side by side at a Boxing H of Fame Banquet,
and they were both basically the same size"....so I made the fight".

when did lying about height become a popular thing? Seems so many do it in all sports...I understand why but def throws off our perceptions of HWs.

Luis Ortiz was billed as having an 84 inch reach until he fought Wilder where the NY athletic commission measured it out to only 76 inches.

Not buying that.

Andre the giant had huge hands. Easily 15". I'd guess 18"! His ring size was 24.

Just goggle Andre the giant fist size isn you'll see. There is a photo of him and Ali, hand to hand. Ali's hand looks like a small childs.

They have plaster casts of Liston's fists at Canastota and they're huge, bigger than Primo's.

What gives you the impression of Mayweather's height being illegitimate? He looked considerably taller than Pacquiao and Hatton.

A an article in The Ring I read as a kid related an anecdote (I think from Duran's trainer) in which Duran is supposed to have said after meeting Hagler, "I almost tall like Marvin. I fight him".
(The title of the article was something like, "Marvin Hagler: Boxing's Angry Man".)

Edit: I'll be damned, I found it, but it's a New York Times article.

https://www.nytimes.com/1987/03/22/magazine/boxing-s-angry-man.html

That's really ****ing weird because I'm 100% certain it's the same text, and yet 100% certain I did NOT read it in the New York Times. At the age I was and where I lived at the time I wouldn't even have been able to get a copy of the NYT even if I'd wanted to. I'd have had to drive to a Barnes and Noble or something twenty miles away, and I couldn't even drive yet.

Anybody know what's going on here? Did any of the big three boxing magazines joint publish certain articles with the NYT?
