Lopez is one of the most complete fighters Ive laid eyes on...truly a treat to watch in full flight.

But jeeez he really does get overrated by a certain section of fans. The fans that know a bit more about boxing than your average punter but dont have that knowledge of the more obscure and less talked about fighters.

In a general sense he was underrated because he got almost no love when he was bouncing around, even though hands down he was among the best few fighters around at the time.

But when compared to his fellow fighters below flyweight he feats are vastly exaggerated.

Straweight was a wasteland, was before that and has been since. Just was never a strong division at anytime IMO.
Had it only been Alvarez around at the time, he would have dominated it just as long and just thoroughly..not as impressively or brutally but I dont see him losing to just about any of the guys Lopez fought.

Rosendo was a good little fighter though...But it just shows Lopez's dominant reign over a very weak division just does not look as impressive in the scheme of things when you compare it to the names guys like Sanchez and Olivares faced.

Lopez had bonafide and worthy adversaries only a couple pounds away, belting it out for good purses with good coverage but he didnt face them..Wasnt his fault but it didnt happen.
Had he taken them on and beaten them...which he would have...I could understand this level of praise but as it stands his career is just doesnt stand up to some of the truly great resumes that Mexican fighters have produced...and there have been some stunning ones.
