I'd like to know if Kalule had somebody representing him against SRL. I wouldn't be surprised if that's still a record for the greatest disparity in compensation in favor of a title challenger ever.

The quote I got from boxing publications at the time was that Kalule got $140,000 for defending, while SRL got a couple million or more out of challenging. Ayub may have actually gotten as little as $80,000, or even less. Previously, Benitez got $1,400,000 to Ray's even one million in their WW showdown.
A lot of things get charged to the fighter like press dinners, travel, and intrest on loans between fights. The fighter takes the punches and should always get paid the most but a lot of managers are fond of charging the fighter things that he benefits from like meals, personal phone calls and air tickets for his buddies. A lot of managers also get shafted by the fighter. They can invest into a kid who will leave him when the money comes in. Fighters dont mind handing over 15%-30% when the purse is small but find it hard to bare when it bumps up into the millions.
