All these posts lately on MW's being over and underrated has me curious what the masses think.

Fot this post we will exclude Carlos Monzon who many including myself is the best and most underrated middleweight.

Feel free to throw in the most overrated as well.

I'll think on it, but Monzon isnt underrated here, everyone has him in the very top tier of MWs, some as you say, top.

    Rodrigo Valdez is often overlooked.
    LaMotta is underrated by many.
    Ketchel also.
Bubi Scholz while not great but deserves a mention.
    Jermain Taylor also.
Vito Antuefermo is often seen as just having been lucky to be around at the right time.
Bob Fitzsimmons is nearly never talked about as a mw.
Never heard anyone talk abut the non-pareil Jack Dempsey on here.

Great boxer, somewhat weak of chin i believe, not to discredit him there, apparently was very very difficult to box with

There are dozens we could name pre-60s that don't get mentioned much.

For the sixties i'll side with Luis Rodriguez.he beat a lot of top contenders there.

seventies=Minter: a lot of people still think he sucks.

    eighties Hagler era=Sibbo.

Post-Hagler till now-kalambay and Eubank.Maybe not at this site but in general at least. Most of the others like Toney, Jones, Hops, McCallum have strong fanbases.

Good call there with McAvoy, i have a few little read-ups on him. Actually all of the guys in your post are good calls, Valdez doesnt get mentioned near enough (in general), and Steele did well in a very tough era.

How about Overlin and Soose, Overlin especially, not sure if im right, but didnt he do well against The Row?

EDIT- reply to your post Mcvey

Overlin had a solid career ,he was a boxer rather than puncher,he met Apostoli twice, winning and drawing with him, beat and drew with a young Ezzard Charles,,took two close decs of Steve Belloise, beat Al Hostak ,a good puncher, beat Nate Bolden ,and Ceferino Garcia ,but lost to Kid Tunero,Freddie Steele by ko,and dropped decs toYarosz x2 ,Lloyd Marshall and two to Billy Soose.
