The most unheralded hard men of boxing.....EVER!

Whilst even the most oft beat journeymen in the history of boxing deserves full respect for just having the balls to enter the 'square ring' for our entertainment, there are, to my mind, an elite band of fighters who, although never likely to gain recognition in the BHOF, deserve to be remembered with respect for their feats of endurance and longevity in this, the hardest of all sports.

My first vote goes to one of the modern day's real hard men; he never ducked an opponent, and even when losing, always went out 'on his shield,' having given his all.

    Stand up, JORGE FERNANDO CASTRO.

True Boxing afficionados the world over salute you!

Of his 144 bouts (130-11-3) Jorge fought his fair share of bums, as well as numerous seasoned pro's and latter day legends, only failing to hear the final bell on 2 occasions.

I trust this man is now living comfortably in retirement, having given his best years to the 'Noble Art!'

    Any additions to this entry?

Perhaps Ross Puritty...dude fought pretty much everyone between the early 90s into the 21st century. As far as I recall always gave his all.

  4. JACK DEMPSEY- The old time fighters were the toughest-hardest, they fought out in the blazing heat ,sun, 40 rounds+ with half their grill falling off, they didn't stop fight's back in those days, they let them go until guy's were near death...

Fought everyone, W/L/D, in a career spanning almost 20 years.

Got robbed on national TV on more than one occasion.

Another guy I hope is living comfortably after all he endured in a long, hard career..........

Marion Wilson probably takes the cake here.

Then there's Randy Smith, Curtis Parker, Prince Charles Williams, Danny Blake...

Being in multiple fixed fights taints that a bit in my opinion, plus a extremely padded record. He may as well of had 150 fights or so because most of them were unrecognizable nobodies.

Greb is a fairer pick then him, though he's hardly unheralded. Had 10 more fights then Stribling and fought better opposition with more success as well.

you misunderstood the point of the thread. "unheralded" meaning they didnt get their proper dues....dempsey is already down as an all time great heavyweight...so that doesnt fit this trhead
