very good comment, what seperates Ali and Tyson is what Ali did after his layoff and what Tyson didn't do

You can't compare the layoffs Ali was out 3 years and was still boxing exhibitions and training almost everyday Tyson was LOCKED UP, didn't do any boxing training of any kind and was out of the ring for 4 years and 2 months.

Tyson's career arc is similar to Dempsey's, quick rush to the title, clean out most of the division, then inactivity… but he outclasses Dempsey in his destruction of the division and quality of opponents.

He's a fairy boy, with a bunch of ass kissing angels.
    Buster D ended him.
Holyfield wudda beat him 10 times outta 10.
Lewis beats him prime for prime.
Mikey Boy cleaned out a moderate bunch with youthful vigour and to great effect....that's it.

AZZER...You actually make the point against Mikey Boy...the reason be "fought" Francis Mcneely etc and not Mercer Rahman etc..is obvious....the doors to the freak show wouldve been close sooner....Whatever Ali did he would never have lost to a Danny Williams or a Mcbride....Tyson post prison was a joke.
He cleaned out a weak division 86-89...thats it..
Why do people make this guy somethin he aint ?
No longevity.. no plan b....no charisma...never 'get' why he has so many groupies.

    THIS.

But all you have done is re - open the same boring can of worms. Expect the usual deluge of feeble excuses from Tyson fanboys ( all of which are total fantasy ) crying he had " problems " going into the Douglas fight. He didn't train properly, he was drinking and smoking dope, blah, blah, fvcking blah.:tired:tired:tired

You simps act like there is someone out there with a perfect resume, completely bulletproof and unassailable, yet fail to acknowledge that a 55 year old Reggie Gross would kick your ass in 20 seconds. Boxing is the hardest sporting endeavor. And a midget like Tyson taking the prize division when the sport was still massively popular defies superlatives. So, talk your ****. Just realize bull**** walks, records talk. Tyson still largely defines what a heavyweight champ can and should be.

Err .... you missed out the bit where he lost the title by getting KTFO by Buster Douglas, (at age 23, smack bang in his prime).

It's strange how people can gloss over that emphatic defeat to Douglas, like that.

oh... i don't know....maybe,awesome two hand power and speed,an aggressive, ferocious, exciting style(no jab and run ali bull****)! youngest champ ever.i do not know if you consider ali great but,he (ali) went 8 rds with 180 light heavy king foster, tyson destroyed an equally dominant(at 175lb) spinks(who was a legit 213lb) in one rd.biggs was a 6'5" Olympian, tyson toyed with him, then knocked him out in 7rd.ruddock,in my opinion was every bit as big and strong as foreman (hit as hard) and though mike was clearly past his prime, beat him twice.

Not absolutely analogous. But then again, neither did Tyson have two outstanding contenders both before and during his reign which he completely ducked.

Well, if you want to argue he's better (or has a better reign) than Dempsey, that's another thing.

But, generally, I've seen a lot of comments that compare Tyson's going to jail to the inactivity of some of the famous reigning champs (Dempsey, and Louis and Ali), ignoring the fact that he got his ass handed to him when he was active and reigning champion, and young as well. He went to jail an ex-champ.
To summarize his "career arc" without mentioning him getting knocked out for the undisputed championship at the height of his reputation, seems like sugar-coating to the extreme.
