Just for argument sakes to let the Gamers know that people do have muscles without Steroids___people can be naturally genetically better than the field even if you don't want to admit it. Some do take their natural phenom ability and up it one with PED use but that's another story. John Grimek Not sure when this was. 1930's maybe. Yes I think that if he was using then they all knew from the start and one of them was probably responsible. Yeah its possible but but why are we suddenly comparing boxers with bodybuilders? Bodybuilders are not athlethes they are only concerned with the aesthetic, "definition" is the only goal certainly not fitness, strenght or power. Why would you expect a boxer to look like a bodybuilder? Yet apparently since the late seventies most top boxer can look totally ripped, like its possible to look like that almost by accident. "I did training camp for 8 weeks, trained hard, ate lots of eggs, ran some hills, hit some meat and ran up some steps and now you can see every vein in my body when i smile."
some guys get ripped and in shape fast. especially when they trained for a long time and their body has "muscle-memory" to whip them back into shape. Because Bodybuilders and Athletes have similar goals: Condition of the body through training and diet. Bodybuilders back then actually started out as athletes__power-lifters. Some were gymnasts and "real" wrestlers especially. It's different today in some ways. You also have to remember that there are many that we call "elite" athletes today just for that reason___they are "elite" genetically so we don't compare them to the average Joe. What the average Joe does in the gym and what he sees his results do for him can be quite different than the genetic freak. I've got decent genes. Stocky and muscular. Played sports since I was a little kid. Worked out with weights since I was 13 but one of my friends back in the day didn't lift weights and just played sports and he was a freak of nature. Big, Solid, Muscular, six-pack and lived off fast-food____goddamn that S.O.B. So I know we are all made different. I remember Chris Carter talking about this with regards to Randy Moss. Chris was a freak when it came to diet and training while Randy was__well___eating junk food and doing what he does. And guess who was still better because of his superior genes? Randy. That's some ****. By the way; I used John Grimek as my example because he toyed with his diet and training. He could blow up in weight in a short time__increasing his strength__then diet back down with ease in his heyday. Steve Reeves was another that had lapses in training, got disciplined, worked out hard and ate right, and made dramatic changes to his body in a very short time period. All this before Steroids. And I'm not talking about the time when both were older and still training and Steroids had just arrive on the scene. Post-50's, yes, there were Steroids__but there was also more knowledge of diet, training and bodybuilding to mold the body differently__especially for the athlete to incorporate. HOWEVER: Example of a "Real Wrestler"/athlete from way back in the day: Georg Karl Julius Hackenschmidt ( This content is protected — 19 February 1968 This content is protected [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5U3KgJcQzk[/ame]
Good post. :good I'm a huge Tyson-fan, but it's damn hard to ignore his post-prison roid rage, on more than one occasion...
i agree its possible to look very muscular naturally (and easier for some people) but the point is drugs were common and undected in many profesional sports at the very top level in the 1980's- so why would boxing be different? Surely boxers would benfit most?
True. Athletes in general would benefit. But my point is that not everyone is on them. And, there are those that already are genetically gifted but at some point decide to take some sort of PED for one reason or the other.
