I'm not saying this scenario will happen but: If Pac lands the shot he hit Hatton with do you think Floyd brushes it off?
The shot that put Algieri, Hatton asleep in the air and flat on their backs? I don't know what would happen but boy would that make things interesting. I don't think anyone could brush that off....Floyd isn't unhurtable. I wonder if it would at least buckle his legs or knock him down. No KO though.
OH, I certainly think it's better than average. I think he could still be taken out, but it would have to require some serious follow-up on Pac or anyone else's part to capitalize upon buzzing him.
Man. I didn't know Floyd made that mistake in the Corley fight too. This is why he was getting caught by Judah and then Ortiz at some points. Against southpaws, he tend to sometimes go into the philly shell instinctively when he has to react quick when he should be putting up a high guard. I know it's hard when you've fought so many orthodox fighters, and habits are hard to break...but..that's a habit he can't walk into the Pacquiao fight with. Come on, Floyd.
Honestly, Floyd has slipped a bit since the Pacquiao fight-hype first began. I think this will be a very tough fight for him now. The likelihood of Pac catching him clean (out of that Southpaw stance) at some point is very, very high in my opinion. It will be interesting to see how this thread unfolds. May the best man win -- and get credit for it -- regardless.
floyd has been hit flush numerous times, even ortiz landed some good shots on him. he has been rocked or affected by the following -round 2 vs mosley (twice rocked) -demarcus corley hurt him in the mid rounds -judah knocked him down (clearly more of a balance issue but should have been called a KD regardless) -maidana 2 - round 3 at the bell maidana got his attention with a good shot out of all those times the worst shot he ever took was from mosley
Floyd was able to adjust to a straight left hand puncher and a right hooking southpaw. Corley hurt Cotto too with the same right hook. Only thing is Floyd's will to stay on his feet and come back to win is stronger than Pac's. Pac gets hit on the chin and you don't know if he's still alive or dead.
He's been in the ring with some very heavy handed fighters, from corrales at 130 to guys like N'dou, Mosley and maidana. While he rarely ever gets caught flushed with power shots in his fights, every so often a fighter will nail him with a shot that would probably knockdown most welterweights (I.e. Mosley or maidana's right hand shots.) Floyd has an exceptional chin, it's just that it rarely gets tested because of his elite defense.
It gets tested, it just doesn't get countered over and over. He won't let you. His will to fight and win takes over. His brain is why he is who he is.
Corely landed a dead on big shot.. Floyd felt it.. but seconds later fired right back and dominated the fight. That was a decade ago.. and Corley can pop... I wouldn't even say he staggered him.. Floyd was fighting reckless and got caught.. the thing is.. he didn't get hurt, he didn't go down. He came back. It's a solid chin... and no matter what happens in this fight doesn't change that. He's 37 now.. so who even knows.. he's getting old.. it's shown... we'll see.. prime I think it's a pretty easy fight for Floyd.. but this slower, more heavy footed and less reaction timed Floyd? It's going to be a close fight.
