The first point to make for me is that Calzaghe was an excellent fighter and that he does sometimes suffer from a bit of "anti-European" bias from some posters. Joe would have beaten Toney *and* Hopkins in their primes at 168 in close fights. That's how good he was IMO.

However a prime Roy Jones - at 168 or 175 - is something altogether different. He was significantly faster than Joe - hand speed and foot speed - as well as a much harder hitter with both hands. He was also a lot more elusive than Joe who ate a lot of right hands throughout his career.

People bring up the 1st Griffin fight as evidence of a prime Jones's shortcomings. Okay, Griffin was very competitive until in the early to mid rounds. But Jones had his style worked out by the end and had him all but KO'd, as he proved in the rematch.

Also the flipside of this, is that Calzaghe is seen by many to have lost to Robin Reid who is nowhere near as talented as a prime, undefeated Griffin trained by Eddie Futch. Calzaghe took a lot of shots against Reid, Woodhall and many others.

Against Jones he couldn't afford to take too many. If Roy shows Calzaghe too much respect, it may be a repeat of Jones-Hopkins... a one-sided shutout for Roy with Jones using his feet to avoid getting hit. If Joe pushes forward and piles on the pressure he would more than likely get picked apart and stopped. Those are the only two scenarios I see.

It's just pure speculation. Man what the ****? If that hoe calezahge wouldeve stepped up to prime Jones than there is no speculation. But he waited until Jones got knocked out 3 times. **** Calzaghe. here in america, you have to prove yourself. This ain't Europe, canada, or africa, Jones would have beat the **** out of Calzaghe, or Calzaghe would have been the man. Suck a dick threadstarter.

Calzaghe's intention was to unify at 168 ever since he beat Mitchell and that is fact. Injury, Warren and tv contract made sure the Jones fight never happened and as we know Hopkins priced himself out of a fight.

And the only reason Roy was able to step up to heavyweight was because of androstenedione, in fact he was caught using the stuff at Light Heavy
