i see your point. but chavez jr is seen as overrated because he's been relentlessly overhyped and marketed by top rank, he's been on major ppvs, has had major opportunities handed to him on a plate, been built up as a big draw and got the benefit of every close decision. basically if he had a different name you would never have heard of him and he doesn't deserve to be where he is, it's all due to clever promoting. that's why people say he's overhyped and overrated, because they try to shove him down our throats when nobody rates him.
How can you be overrated when most people think he can't beat anybody with a title. If anything he might be a little underrated
Lol At these Fail answers here. Looks like Chavez Jr is mostly considered as a bum while he clearly is NOT. Under rated if anything
If nobody rates him, how is he over rated? hyped yes, cos of the name but overrated? I don't see many chavette juniors on this board :think
That is a good point. Also boxing is a business. Some people are more marketable than others whether they deserve it or not.
Being overexposed and overrated are two different things. Chavez clearly isn't overrated because very few if anyone rates him highly. Promoters and managers don't count because thats part of their job even if they have a poor fighter. Actually, Chavez is heading toward the underrated category because it seems like a lot of people think some guy drug out of a local bar could beat him. He isn't his father and he's far from world class but he's better than most professional boxers in his weight class(es). Being over exposed is a different issue. He does get too much attention from boxing sites. There are a lot better fighters out there who get a fraction of the attention Chavez gets. But that's how boxing and all basic entertainment works. Plenty of lesser talented sports teams, actors, celeberities, etc get more exposure than ones with more talent. Chavez is in that category, people want to see him because of his name and good promoting even though there are a ton of better fighters with much less attention going their way.
Totally agree with you. But this thread just goes to show you that there are so many ******s on this forum that can't read and comprehend a few sentences.
And this thread is a case in point. How many active fighters, with as little on their resumes as Jr., would generate a multi-page thread revolving around a semantics argument?
Yes I do. All those things with the exception of the sanctioning bodies rankings are based on popularity. If a fighter is a much bigger draw they can rightfully demand the higher purse. As regards being rated highly by the sanctioning bodies, there's no way Chavez Jr has earned the right to be a mandatory, but as you well know it's all politics and corrupt. The sanctioning bodies rankings are, for the most part, **** and not to be taken seriously.
