Why is it that his losses to Tarver spawned this myth?

Before Jones fought Tarver, he was 8-0 vs southpaws I believe. He destroyed Hall who was a hard hitting tall southpaw.

Where did this come from and why is it always mentioned?

    Tarver fight for sure.

That is also where the glass jaw myth came from too IMO.

Well, he also had a very competitive fight with Harding. I think it has to do with the fact that the threat of the left hand negates his leaping right hand. So his offense is more limited.

This myth came from; haters trying to come up with a way to discredit Roy and how he compairs to other great fighters and the fact that his first loss came from one, if it came from a small pressure fighter then he would have had trouble with small pressure fighters.

It is always mentioned because: People try to fined anyway they can to discredit fighters they do not like.

Actually, his lead straight right is effective against lefties, as is his leaping left hook.

He had a very competitive fight for a Roy Jones fight. If you take the name Jones off his trunks, it becomes just another clear victory for a fighter.

A leaping right hand against a southpaw is dangerous. You could get caught FLUSH leaping in. That's why RJJ almost never did that against Tarver. He always moved to his left to avoid the left hand.

I know Jones dominated a lot of southpaws, but he didnt look AS good 'vs' them generally. He left hook wasnt as effective at all imo. In fact I'm sure Jones himself said in interview he didn't like fighting them. I'll try to find it.

He did say that. Most don't like fighting them.

But saying he had trouble against them is not the same as saying he didn't look as good against them. He still virtually shut them out.

i think he sometimes had trouble when he had to the lead, specially when fighting counterpunchers like Harding and Griffin.

Also, I know many people don't really pay much attention to what happend in the amateurs but I have both of Roy Jones fights with Frank Liles. Liles had a four inch height advantage over Roy and was a southpaw. He was beaten soundly twice.

And lets not forget this great performance. The most incredible things I have ever seen in a ring.
