Hahah clearly making excuses for the Klitschko's, just get over it. They are quality fighters but they will never but up there with the Ali's etc because the competition is embarrassing at times. That's not their fault it's just the way it is unfortunately.

You gotta beat great fighters to be an ATG, but not just to be great.

If you beat everyone around you during your era, you achieve greatness.

Some 1 trick ponies might beat a great fighter on their 1 big nite, then do nothin else in their career, so they can't be called great.

Obvious point because otherwise there'd never have been any great fighters in history.

The myth is that great fighters are a dime a dozen. The truth is that there not. On ocasion two or more great boxers will cross paths. However that's rare. Agreat facing another great in their primes. Is a matter of fate.

    Two words;Ricardo ****ing Lopez.

As good an example of this as any.Finito is as pure a boxer as you'll find and is better than many who are held in higher regard because they have names on their resume.

Many fighters have a last hurrah: Holmes (Mercer), Foreman (Moorer), Mosley (Margarito), Duran (Barkley).

After his first loss to Spinks, Holmes was inactive for a year before the rematch. Then inactive for two years before facing the marketeable young Tyson. Talk about inactiveness. Typical Young Tiger vs. Old Lion scenario that promoters love: Holmes was the Old Lion.

Holmes weighed 225 pounds, his career heaviest till that moment, 13 pounds above his 1982 best weight.

2003 Lewis had two things that 1988 Holmes didn't have: he was definitely more active (6 fights in the last 3 years, compare to Holmes' numbers) and had confidence.

It is simple. Ali was Great because he beat Frazier who was Great because he beat Ali.

    This, with that being said.
It is fair to say Holyfield isn't even a top 30 ATG hw.

He hadn't fought in a year and took the Quitali fight on short notice. Lewis was also the heaviest in his career as well. At least Holmes was motivated and wanted to prove something and had time to prepare ... Lewis literally just showed up expecting an easy win.

Oh and usually the younger guy dehtrones the older lion ... Vitali failed despite waiting for over a year and paying K. Johnson off in order to get a shot at Lewis.

Holmes continued to fight afterwards and won some big fights and gave top level guys hell. He was still a force. Lewis was completely done.

Beating other ATG's adds to a legacy if they're available to fight. If there are none available then you have to have achievements that compensate for that, which do not include losing to journeymen or fat ATG's, or picking a succession of no-marks to fight. Tyson was the youngest ever unified champ and tore a new ******* in the division, and he transcended the sport. Wlad takes 4 rounds to beat a 40 year old Mormeck and Vitali got vagina-face as soon as he faced an ATG. Yet again Klitards are arguing that there are no other HW ATGs except the brothers, who never beat anyone of any worth and managed to share a division and 'dominate' as a pair.
