Hmm? Were you thinking about Kovalev? And even with Kovalev Gvozdyk is not a friend. They're more like buddies. Or gym acquaintances. And Gvozdyk already said in the past that he would fight Kovalev in a unification fight. Derevyanchenko fought Jacobs, after all.
I think that Stevenson was a better preparation for Bivol than Any of those guys while Bivol has yet to fight anyone of Stevensons level. Why is it that Gvozdyk needs more preparation and not Bivol?
Ok, so your point is "fight Bivol before he's not completely ready as well", isn't it? Well, maybe that's the way Gvozdyk should follow indeed. But I'm not sure. I would rather see him fight one of those (other) guys first.
Pretty sure they are friends, you can see in one of the documentaries when Bivol and his whole team are extremely anxious watching backstage Kovalev's fight when Alvarez was kicking his ass... plus I heard Russian fighters really like to avoid fighting other russian fighters.. Emelianenko the MMA fighter for example always avoids that today he says.
You definitely got me confused... Who are friends with whom? Or was Gvozdyk there as well backstage watching the fight? Even if he was it doesn't mean they are friends. Because all sportsmen are usually friendly with each other (unless they have a personal beef or something) especially in a foreign country, so it's not a big deal. Anyway, if Kovalev beats Alvarez, those four (Gvozdyk, Bivol, Beterbiev and Kovalev) will have to fight each other to unify. There will be nothing wrong with that at all.
My point is that you wanted Gvozdyk to get more preparation when he's better prepared than Bivol. How that isn't completely obvious I don't know.
I think Gvozdyk as well as Bivol is not completely ready yet. So, I would prefer them both to have another fight or two in order for us fans to have a better quality unification fight after all. But I'm not like 100% sure about it and if they decide to fight now, it's fine with me!
You can make the case for Bivol and Beterbiev. Gvozdyk however has beat a world level fighter. Beterbiev is the one who needs to fight the Barreras and Brownes of the world. Though some would claim that if you hold a world title you've bypassed your right to claim you aren't ready to fight other title holders.
Yes, he did. But he has a new trainer (only one fight together) and he has fought only one 12 rounds fight in his career (we could almost count the Stevenson fight as a full distance fight, though).
