Steve Collins - coveniently retired Sven Otke - Main Super middle rival, but a trip to Germany would have resulted in robbery. No mention of Joe in Sven's abortive comeback this year James Toney - This still could happen if weights could be agreed. A victory here would give him a grand slam of the American rivals from his generation
I wouldnt say toney was an option, he wasnt an active super middle when Joe won his title. Ottke and Beyer are the only missing names as far as im concerned.
Ottke - Ducked JC blatantly, once pretending not to know who he was! Prime Hopkins - Ducked JC in 2002 having intially agreed to the fight. Prime Roy Jones Junior - Joe didn't do enough to earn this fight....had he fought and beat Hopkins who knows? You can only fight who is willing though. DM: He could've made this fight and I hold this big time against Calzaghe. Would've been a great win had he managed it and opened alot of doors with regards to the LHW division and Roy Jones Junior. These are the only names that would've signficantly added to Joes resume IMO. The likes of Beyer, Echols and Mundine who people have cringeworthingly stated JC should've fought would not have added much at all that he's not already got.
Not really. Guys a loss *****. What would he have really added? The two times Joe was supposed to fight this guy he was accused of 'fleeing the SMW division' in the face of the challenges of the young, up and comers Jeff Lacy and later, the brillant Mikkel Kessler. I really don't think beating this trial horse would've been all that signficant tbh. Not the worst fight, but I prefer his wins over Kessler and Lacy and the fact that he cleaned out the SMW division in doing so.
The main one is Roy Jones. From the point of view it probably could have been made if Calzaghe had done things differently. Glen Johnson also would have been a solid win. There are a few others, but they have to be makeable. Ottke was never an option even though he looked so close. He never left Germany, and why would you go to Germany and risk your career? He did try to get Hopkins in the ring long ago. James Toney is a laughable suggestion. This is one where people don't seem to have an idea of the time periods involved. The above two are the main ones I wish he took.
It really doesent matter how many losses the man has had, he was lined up to face Calzaghe two times. He is the only fighter at SMW you can make an argument about being ducked by Calzaghe. And that is the reason he is missing on Calzaghes record. And he is a better fighter than Evans Ashira, Manfredo, Kabery Salem and the likes.
There's always names missing from other fighter's CV, Hell of a lot more on hopkins and jones jr than on calzaghe, That's for sure.
this is a typical delusional JC fan...why don't he just fight hagler too...then he can say he beat hagler AND hopkins
