Interesting to see the Premier League and it's clubs don't want to go to tender regarding the new deal. They are worried TV rights will decrease in value and instead want to renew with current partners. DAZN could be locked out if this gets allowed.

Agreed. Would be surprised if its allowed to happen as currently its not legal.

The other issue they now have is BT are selling up. How can they commit to the same funds when they might not exist. Unless DAZN purchase a bunch of the deals and asset strip them

ITV are in for BT Sports as well according to the papers tomorrow. If they somehow were successful surely some of BT’s output would be shown free to air. Including boxing I’d presume.

They'll use the argument that covid has devastated the game and this is the safest way to protect broadcast revenue for the clubs.

I think BT know that cable tv will be phased out soon so dont want to waste money on it.

Youd have to ask what would DAZN or Amazon want from BT Sport? ie what would they be paying money for? The rights to football and boxing? The presenters? The staff? The buildings?

Isnt the whole point of internet subscription that its a cheaper business model than satalitte and digibox?

I dont know why the premier league doesnt just go full digital like the NBA

Agreed but can BT really contractually agree to it for however many years knowing they may not be in existence.

My guess is there are two types of buyers. One a a company wanting to by BT as it is and make it work and compete with Sky. Another channel of investment firm may be interest in that. Wouldn’t put someone like ESPN out of the question to enter the UK market and rebrand it.

the other would be the likes of DAZN or Amazon etc who will have no interest in to the channel but would be happy to asset strip the rights for their own gain. If BT can’t find a buyer and want out as it’s leaking money. Selling their contracts and winding the channel up is the next best option as it prevents them being sued left and right by champions league etc for not honouring the contracts and gets them a massive cash injection for what they want to do.

I’m sure I read somewhere last year that BT & ITV are already in conjunction with each other in some way. Add to that the deal that Frank had with ITV pre pandemic that was launching

I actually think their model is the complete opposite.

Rather than buy worldwide rights, focus on rights which will draw in subscribers in that particular country. For example rather than spending money on worldwide rights for Kabaddi, just buy them for India.

Reports in the papers this morning that BT is more likely to be interested in selling a stake in BT Sport than the whole entity. Would make the ITV talk seem sensible in my view.

Thinking of paying a couple of quid to watch the fight on Dazn but I'd rather not get up at 4 am for this one. I noticed Dazn has on demand, does anyone know how reliable it is? Will it be available to watch at 9 am on Sunday morning or does it tend to appear a couple of days after the event?

I have to say it would make a welcome change from Sky Box Office which doesn't let you record for some bizarre reason.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

Yeah thats what i was worried about lol.

Normally I go trawling through you tube/daily motion the morning after a fight looking for an upload only to see "STUNNING 4TH ROUND KO!!!!" as a video title.
