I don't think many people have a problem with the principal of a PPV, but it's what's happening as a result of PPVs success that's pissing everyone off. Frampton vs Donaire was a good, exciting Saturday night fight, and it had a good card full of exciting match ups (IIRC) Definitely not PPV. Then how is it that Whyte v Chisora will be? If you want to feed me manure and tell me it's chocolate fudge cake, no bother pal, I'll not be eating it. We have consumer choice. But, when is the last time Sky put on a Taylor v O'hara Davies type fight for their subscribers? When's the last time they had a 50/50 British title fight at the top of the bill as a regular Saturday night fight? Sky haven't done it for years now, but it was alright, that's what Box Nation and BT were for. Now BN is dead and the worry is that BT go the Sky route and abandon non-PPV events. That's the problem.
I saw the Meg last week. The Stath, huge shark - what's not to like. Compare that with Joshua likely keeping a 40 year old short man (realtively) at distance for 12 rounds. I shall be going to my local, nursing a pint (cos i'm tight and can't handle my drink) and watching the fight there.
Neither, and not because I am tight. Last night me and a few pals had a few drinks, kebabs, back to mine and watched mission impossible fallout "overrated" just like ppvs and then the GGG fight, all in HD and not a penny went towards lining the coffers of some promoter and his band of buddies, I leave that to the sheeple to do. They will wake up one day.
To be honest depends on what it is, fortunately I’m in a position where I can afford to pay for the PPVs but I’m not going to throw money away so I actually have to be interested if I’m going to pay for it. Also if you think about it £15 for the boxing plus tenner to get some beer in and mates round it’s cheaper than going pub to watch.
PPV should be an exceptional circumstance just like going to the cinema. I have a missus and two kids, so going watching Jason Statham round house kick a megalodon in chops set me back £40 odd. I would wager that the majority of boxing fans are from a social background (used be called working class) that are just about getting by. It’s not right that we’re set to be getting fleeced by several PPV’s before Christmas.
How are you getting fleeced, if you don't like it don't buy it watch it a few days after on youtube or something else.
Come on, mate, they’re not all ppv worthy. We’re getting fleeced in that respect, they’re taking advantage of our love for the sport.
It is cheaper than the pub but the reality is doing anything sitting on your backside on your couch in front of your own TV is cheaper than the pub. Even the people with a passing interest who want a cheap night, with a few mates and some beer will get fed up of getting the **** taken out of them. If every second weekend there's a PPV fight being advertised on BT, Sky etc. it will become the norm and in the real world most folk can't get together every fortnight with several other mates to chip in for a PPV, pizza and beer for fights they aren't really that bothered about if they don't see at as an 'event'. The Whyte v Parker fight did better than most people expected. End of July with good weather before the football season has started is a completely different climate from November and December when people are saving for Christmas and will be seeing there mates at the football or festivities anyway. Hopefully we will see a backlash like we did after Haye V Harrison because this is not sustainable.
First and foremost "We're" not. The fleeced are those that continue to support it, and in this every day environment that is what it is designed to do. I would rather people stop buying in to this "Lets Make somebody millions" by ramming non fights down peoples throats, and by the way they will buy it because we say it is great etc etc... I absolutely love the sport and have done for over Forty Years, but the sport i love and knew went away many many years ago. Instead of feeling the need to part with hard earned, check out when the next amateur bouts are taking place near you... The atmosphere is superb, and you get to see a cracking night of boxing!!! Support the kids, not the over inflated egos of the "I don't want to fight Brigade" unless you pay me millions...
