Pirog,Lemieux,N'Jikam,Golovkin,Jacobs(cant write him off just yet), Guerrero,Lee,Macklin,Barker..Some cracking talent emerging at world level, could be the best division in a year. Pirog was excellent last night, you won't find a book on his style:bbb. Personally, i think Golovkin is the best of the bunch, very smart boxer. Should be fun watching these guys kick on.
These are good guys but few if any strike any of us as genuine talent who could do what Pac or Floyd could do. Many of them will struggle to reach the level of Pavlik or Martinez.
ive never seen golovkin fight, but heard good reports, its looking tough for the home trio to get a world belt, the best bet for them would be chavez, pirog, williams, martinez, are nightmares with gloves on.:good
On Sunday, April 19, 2009, Kirkland was stopped in Austin traffic and arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon, with a possibility of prison if he is convicted.[5] He is currently on probation for an armed robbery conviction in 2003, for which he spent 30 months in jail.[6]. On Wednesday, September 23, 2009, Kirkland was sentenced to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to the firearm charge. Having already served 6 months in jail since his arrest, he will serve 18 more months before being released. It has been reported that Kirkland's projected release date will be October 2, 2010.[7]
Think he's being released in September. I'm really positive about this division. Martinez can fight Williams or rematch Oavlik while the new breed battle it out (I presume Angulo will chase the $$$$'s and move up) although I don't reckon Lee, Barker or Macklin will be able to mix it up with some of the names being mentioned here. Hopefully Koborov can start pushing hard and get up there within a year or so. Golovkin Vs NJikam is the next one we NEED to see. Lemiuex Vs any of these is instantly intriguing, he's one hyped puncher who actually appears the goods. Lemiuex Vs Chavez Jr :yep
I think Lemieux's handlers will bring him along very carefully, he is only 20 and although he has explosive power he needs to sharpen up his game overall really. He will find that as he moves into world level he ain't gonna be able to blast guys out inside a round or two. The winner of Barker-Macklin will hopefully be rewarded with a crack at Sylvester. Barker and Macklin would both beat Sylvester.
Any life that can be pumped into the middleweight divsion, the greatest weight class in the history of the sport imo, is a good thing in my eyes. The potential is there.
Never seen the macklin-elcock fight until last night, macklin was very impressive. OK Elcock isn't all that and was in survival mode against abraham from the start but was really impressed with how macklin jabbed to the body and head and brought fast overhand rights that hurt elcock badly. Gave a look at the furlan and asikainen fights also and boxed with great patience, not as crude as i thought he was. Slightly off topic,apologies..
Its good to see one of the marquee divisions which has been a lttle stagnant for a while looking lively . Hopefully these guys fight each other over the next 18 months to 2 years
I really want Njikam vs. Golovkin. I dont see how that couldnt e an entertaining fight. Golovkin would start favourite Id say but Id consider it a real pickem fight.
