(This is not a thread about whether or not Floyd is P4P #1, ATG or if Mosley was too old, gassed etc. Mayweather beat Shane soundly and you're either impressed by that or you're not). My question is - Floyd did some things Saturday night that no one expected him to do: (1) He came forward and walked Mosley down and imo came very close to ko'ing him. (2) He took some (in the 2nd round for sure) to give some. (3) His demeanor coming into the ring was more serious and more sober than usual (no beaming smile and mocking sombrero). (4) He was deferential and classy in his post-fight interviews. He could've beat Shane boxing and potshotting. He could've talked up 'greatest of all time' and ripped Pac after the fight. He didn't. My question is why? Why change it up after 40 fights and take a pretty big risk, when everything you've done before has worked to perfection? Just to make #42 a huge spectacle? (If #42 is Pac, it would've been huge anyway). I think the Mayweather camp is HIGHLY underrated in terms of their fight strategies and the way they skillfully manipulate Floyd's public image and the statements Floyd makes to help support/shape it. So you have to believe #41 was different for a good reason. I'm curious to know what you guys think it might be.
PBF had a point to prove. He wanted to prove he wasn't a runner or coward like so many claimned. He could have very easily got on his bike and shut Shane out. When he was hit hard by Shane he showed his fighting spirit and came forward. PBF proved again that he can adjust to any style and has a plan a, b, c and d. While most fighters have one gameplan and after that doesn't work they're lost Mosley showed this. That's what seperates PBF from the rest.
Gameplan. Floyd did NOT fight any way to set up a fight after that...its mentality's like that that lead fighters to their downfall and floyd wouldnt be stupid enough to think that way. the gameplan was to beat shane on the inside. mosley throws looping shots and winds up somewhat. I guess mayweathers figured that shane wouldnt be able to handle an inside game of quick short shots, one after the other. it was actually really smart in hindsight, cause im sure their camp hadnt prepared for much of that and indeed, mosley couldnt deal with it. Personally i think hes near shot or lacking his drugs or something but the gameplan looks solid and effective regardless of mosleys state.
That does separate floyd from the rest, ur right. but i know ur a floyd fan, so i know that u know deep down that floyd wasnt tryna prove no point lol. not his style to prove points to other people.
I think he saw how big Pacquaio made it after his retirement without any frills whatsoever. I remember somewhere where it was written he started to cry because he wasn't proud of his behaviour and his mother told him to just be himself. I think that's what's Floyd's trying to do, just drop the bull****. I also thought it was cool when he told Merchant he wanted to stand toe to toe with Mosley to give the fans what they wanted.
i enjoyed classy and serious mayweather, i think after round 2 he just got pissed off because he knew he made a mistake but after that i've never seen him soo focused in the ring, i hope he appreciates his fights more like this because he just schooled mosley and took the win to his heart and not his head
As much as he says he doesn't care, you know it bothers him how hated he is. I know he was hurt when he fought one of the foreign fighters, either Hatton or JMM and everyone was cheering for them instead of him when he's the American fighter at home. Oh well, I think more people will appreciate him when he's retired for good and they realize how great a fighter he really is.
Wrong PBF does not have a plan. He improvs all that **** as the fight goes. Thats why i gotta respect him. Not many fighters can do that.
I liked the "new" PBF. Much better than the old, in fact. I still think he talks too much **** in the pre-fight hype, but whatever. I guess it sells tickets or something.
The Fact is this Mayweather says that he doesnt watch tapes of boxers because they will not be the same when you get them in the ring. THis was going to be his biggest fight and i guarantee based off of Mosley watching those tapes of mayweather, that what the prepped for. When he came in the ring in a totally different fashion it was a look that no one has seen and mosely wasnt prepared for and he didnt know what to do about it because this is not what he practiced on. That is why there is no blueprint. That is why mayweather is the greatest boxer in the game and that is why i can believe he doesnt study tapes. As far as his post interviews. he is always humble. Until some ***** like larry merchant pisses him off by continuously down playing him. Floyd did seem more focus but you know what. Its mind games. Floyd acted all childish and smiling and singing on 24/7 talking **** at the fight tours. But it started at the weigh ins. Mosely started talking **** first(uncharacteristic) but Pbf didnt even respond. Wasnt **** to talk about anymore. When they got in the ring, Mosely didnt expect mayweather to say "stop talking, stop touching gloves, and fight. That wasnt the PBF he is used to seeing. PBF won this fight mentally then physically. That is why there was a difference.
