Call it a sixth sense. Well if you're worried about his defence right now, against the opposition he's been in so far, give up on him essentially if you hope for him to be a real titlist. He does have chin issue's, he was cracked by an average punching journeyman Rivera and was really hurt, had the punch been from a real puncher, he may not have made the count. The other issue's is that he's predictable and 1 dimensional, despite being quick. His timing is also not top notch, mid-level opponents have found no trouble blocking some of his best attempts. Also a head hunter. Nothing to be overhyped about.
Even looked like he was about to fall apart, thankfully Hanshaw is just a gatekeeper type opponent. Also has yet to fight a competent fringer, a real one I mean. But his speed and timing is very good.
Well opposition obviously had tremendous trouble blocking his attempts Since he beat everyone but yes i do agree he does have weaknesses so i wont talk any **** untill i see him against A level opposition. I think your 6th sense is manipulated by the fact that you dont like americans.
Ward has been very consistent though in recent times. He fights very well off the jab, and has dominated almost every round of his last few fights. Certainly not inconsistent from my perspective. He has great natural skills, and has started to really starting to become comfortable in the pro game. His chin isn't great, but i don't think its weak either. He was trying to fight too much like RJJ earlier in his career, where as now he works off a nice jab, and likes to break his opponent down bit by bit. Dirrell has a tonne of natural potential. He may or may not be chinny, i don't anything has been that well proven yet. His mentality isn't the best, part of the reason IMO he needs better handlers. He has a lot more ability then someone like Andrade, and definitely possesses the tools to beat him. Still, this in terms of ability. At this point i doubt it, although if he can string together more performances like the one against Hanshaw then he could be a real force in the division. I agree that Berto probably has the least potential of the two, but he has still kept winning, and i think will probably be a title holder at some stage, although will be knocked off by some of the better fighters in the welterweight division. How many of Wards recent fights have you seen? The guys is a very well schooled pro, and has been nothing but impressive. I don't see how you could think otherwise, with a guy who literally hasn't lost a round in his last 3 fights at least. He is really putting his feet down on his punches now, he isn't rushing in wide open as much, and is much improved from the guy who was getting caught with some silly punches earlier in his career. Out of all the three guys, he also has the strongest mentality IMO. A guy who is a very dedicated pro, and is working hard on all areas of his game. He is finally now starting to step things up as well, and hopefully take it to the next level. In terms of what he can do in the division, i think provided he steps things up gradually, he could definitely become a force within the division in years to come.
Kessler hadn't lost but a handful up until his fight with Calzaghe, including two unification matches, but that didn't mean much to most people and still doesn't...:yep
That's nonsense, I support all fighters that appeal to me regardless of nationality. But I don't like when guys like Ward, Dirrell, Berto and the lot get a fair bit of hype when superior fighters don't, this has nothing to do with them being American, as other overrated fighters all over get the same. Can't stand the hype on Amir Khan, Nonito Donaire and Jorge Linares for example.
He arguably lost 4 vs Mundine. But yes, agreed it is pretty damn impressive. I think the Andrade win is an under rated victory as well. I was watching him vs Steiglitz (spelling) today again, and he was putting his punches together really well. How do you think he would fair against Bute? I'm almost leaning towards Andrade in this fight....
Pretty much every division. Not only do we see more divisions than ever dominated by non USA fighters, it's fair to say that the talent coming up below is better too. Very few American fighters waiting in the wings like they used too. Remember De La Hoya, Jones Jr, Shane Mosley were all tipped for big things before they got there, can't say the same about Ward, Berto or Dirrell.
You forgot Devon Alexander who could probably wind up being the best out of the bunch you mentioned other then Dawson!
Peter WHO is going to take over the middle weight division? Dawson will be the future p4p kingpin,eh?
