a news conference this Afternoon with ABS-CBN, apparently its new television partner in the Philippines. If the deal with ABSCBN goes through, we could get a fight in March because ABSCBN, the biggest media outlet in the Philippines could campaign and win the election for Pacquiao without Pacquiao having to lift a finger. I hope this goes through :good:good

No big surprise there. News companies pick the winners here in the States, too.

Am I the only one who thinks whether Pacquiao campaigns or not will make little difference to his winning the election? I may be in the minority here but I actually think if I were a Filipino I would be more touched and inclined to vote for him if all I saw was video of him training in isolation, pushing himself to the limit, etc. Just to win one more victory for the mother-f ing mother land.

it is not legal, but you don't know what is elections like in the philippines.

The legal period for campaign is from March 25-May 9 2010, but right now, election campaign is all over the country, that's why if Pac picks a March 13 date, his political opponent would have a field day beating his ass while he is away training in Los Angeles. But, with a media outlet like ABS CBN supporting him and spewing out every propaganda favorable to him and discrediting his election opponent, Pacquiao would have less things to worry about.

Oh, right. So do you think his campaigning will make a difference? I actually work for a Filipino company and everyone here thinks to vote for him would be beyond stupid given his educational background. Can he actually even win?

I'm no expert on politics in the Phillipines but I think if Pac has serious expectations of becoming Gov he has to be around for the campaign.

Just can't see the fight happening in March unless Pac chooses to get rid of his political ambitions for this year.

To be honest the fight will be made for sometime next year so everyone just needs to relax a little and let it happen.

Yes, it makes a difference when you are on the ground shaking hands and smiling, waving at every street, every house, and saying "please vote for me" to every damn person you meet in the province. voters like to keep elections personal especially in provinces.

Why is it important for politicians to be educated? politicians at least in the USA don't really write or read the bills, they don't really do anything which requires an education beyond public speaking. We have had an actor as President and as Gov of Cali because the role of a politician is not to be a thinker but to be an obedient actor.

In the USA politicians are puppets who do not have free will. They do nothing but take orders from their masters. Every bill which is written, signed and passed has nothing to do with the opinions or thoughts of the politicians voting them in. Do you really believe Obama, Bush, Clinton and whoever else had any free will? They are told how to vote, what to say is prepared in advanced, all their opinions are written for them and read from a teleprompter, to this day none of us knows what Bush, Clinton or Obama truly believes. The only thing we know is how they voted and generally they vote according to how they are told, this is why we cannot blame Bush or Obama anymore than we can blame Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt for making a bad movie. We have to blame the director.
