It was a great shot, but I'm also a little worried about Jacobs' chin. No problem with him being hurt from that -- most fighters would be -- but he fell in an absolute heap.

Thanks for putting this thread together, by the way. It's a nice service to the board and I wish there were more of them.

    Gennady Golovkin is very promising!
I was shocked at how he knocked out Bute in amateur.
I want see him fight in the super middle weight!

Golvkin wins title in 58 seconds, Barker out of Macklin fight

    - Darren Barker unfortunately pulled out of the Matthew Macklin fight, so this great prospect showdown is off. Macklin is looking for a replacement but don't have high hopes on a solid name - if he can find anyone to fight

    - Gennady Golovkin became the interim WBA MW champion and therefore the mandatory of Felix Sturm with an 58-second win over Milton Nunez. Golovkin surely didn't waste much time: he hurt the Panamanian with the first power punch he threw, a right hook to Nunez' temple and finished the job with a series of left hook seconds later. Golovkin is for real, let's just hope he gets Sturm once he deals with Giovanni Lorenzo!

    - and in other news, in the latest of WBC's pathetic jokes, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has become the mandatory for Undisputed World MW Champion Sergio Martinez's green belt. Woooo!

thanks alot for puttng this together big bone, its a great list of young fighters and what with the likes of kirkland lara and henry moving up sooner or later there are a lot of real good fights to be made in the next 3 years.

Just as a matter of interest, who do you believe will be the last man standing at the end of it all?

I honestly have no idea. On pure skill level & natural talent, I'd say Golovkin, N'Dam N'Jikam and Pirog stand out the most, and at the moment Pirog looks to be the complete package, but I feel if they all will start fighting each others, it's gonna come down to styles and mental strength, and someone less expected could come and collect all the marbles.

thats why its so interesting - the intangibles at this point of heart chin physical fitness, execution of a fight plan and down right dog in someone - at this point we know very little of thses about any of them and wont until we see them put into uncomfortable positions - the flashy hand speed and ko'ing of frankly sub level opponents is not a way to make a judgement

another point i was thinkin of big bone was that there is a lack of a big home town ticket seller (possible execption lemuix) and big tv audiences which mean that the fights are more likely to be made (?) and these god damn hungry russians that will go anywehr anytime!

    lemuiex v kirkland - war

pirog - golovkin - great fight

and sergio against anybody before he gets too old! lets hope HBO or showtime takes an interest!

Pirog had more than a few supporters in his recent fight in Las Vegas and there are places in the US him and Korobov can build up a nice little Russian following. Guerrero already has a pretty healthy fanbase in Salisbury, Lemieux will be a big draw in Canada, Chavez Jr. sells out already, and N'Dam N'Jikam is quite popular in France (won a tournament there)... Don't know about Macklin and Barker, but with the recognition, fighters from the UK usually become pretty well known - so there's good star potential at 160. MW is actually a perfect place for a Super Six. All the different styles, characters, nationalities etc...

This will be one hell of a middleweight division when these mature in to top contenders

youre a always interesting to read poster Mr Bone, but the concept of a super 6 doesnt really do it for me.

a straight knockout format is the only way tournaments can work for me!

how could i not factor him into things! the guy is a beast!

Korobov was out due a nose surgery that is supposed to give him much more effective breathing, so he was out of sight for some time. But he'll work his way up in no time, I have no doubts.

Also, Macklin's got a new opponent for the September 18 card, he'll face Shalva Jomardashvili for the EBU MW title

One thing I like about Korobov is that he seems to have made the transition from an amatuer oriented style to a more professional style very quickly.
