Playing left tackle in the NFL.

I had a chance to be on the field at a practice for the University of Wisconsin and was able to watch Joe Thomas, now of the Cleveland Browns, up close doing his pass sets and his footwork is absolutely amazing for a guy his size 6'6'" 315.

I considered myself a decent athlete when I was in shape:yep at least I was prety quick and Joe is faster going backwards for 5 yards than I was going forward.

Point is I'm sure many of the NFL lineman could be great fighters if they had gotten into boxing before football.

Do you guys think there is anything that can be done to help change this because the fact of the matter is that without an American contending for the HW title boxing will not find the casual American sports fan, which IMO is bad for the sport. Not that the world can't produce good fighters but a strong American market would be huge for the sport.

i think after both floyd fights.. more attention will be payed to boxing by the casual fans...

all my friends at school who dont know much about boxing are all anticipating the next major fight all because of the hype and excitement of the floyd fight

In America we can make these kinds of excuses concerning the heavyweight division. But what about jr. middleweight through light heavy? Not many guys in the 4 big sports that are the right size to even be able to fight in these weight classes. We're starting to see similar trends in these weight classes that we've been seeing at heavyweight (i.e. - fewer Americans, more Europeans). The other thing is how old all of the "contenders" are: All the big American names are over the hill (aside from Pavlik and JT).

No, he'll be to slow and fat.
He's a Lineman? What does that involve exactly? Cuddling for 2 seconds then getting a 1 minute break?
Only having to play for about 30 minutes a game? 30 minutes stretched to 1 and a half hours due to the between play stoppages?

Doing that and boxing is something entirely different, to be a boxer you need to be on a whole other level in terms of conditioning if you want to succede.

There is nothing that can be done about this.

Most boxers make little to no money - compared to what the Big Dogs are getting.

The NBA & NFL offers a very nice salary - year around. You don't even have to be a starter to make decent money.

Most fighters fight 2 to 3 times a year - and if it's not a major fight - they make 50k to 100k - if they make that much. Remember - the Collazo/Clottey fight only had a purse bid of something like 18k. So you're looking at least 9k for each fighter. With numbers like this - you can see why more run to Basketball and Football.

A Soccer player would not adapt nearly as well in the ring as a Football player.

That said, I'm sure DBs would fair a lot better than lineman.

Yeah but exactly what percentage of high/college Football/Basketball players actually make it to the pros.A very very small percentage.
