I see what you are saying... BUT... it's not that they don't have fight in their heart, or that they don't want to get punched in the face... Maybe they didn't get the opportunity to try boxing as a kid.. If you never tried it how can you fall in love with it?? They would have had to been exposed to Boxing somehow, but somebody gave them a basketball for Christmas instead....

    yeah right, like tye fields...

if that was the case why did tye fields get knocked out by a shot old journey man with 1 punch?

and he definately had enough physical talent and experience. but guess what? his chin let him down bigtime.

whos to say these american basketballers have the following requirements:

    1. chin
    2. balls/heart
    3. boxing fitness (stamina plus ability not to burn up energy from nerves)
    4. boxing IQ (taylor has a lot of amature and pro experience yet he's what i would consider a dumb boxer. relies on physical assets 99% of the time).
    5. power and/or speed

and here's another thing. if they had the mindset to be a boxer, why did they pick the safer route? boxers love doing what they do and usually grow up as fans of the sport. and some of the best boxers in history come from comfortable middle class backgrounds (Ali, Barerra etc.). it's not just about how much money you can make. you gotta LOVE IT.

look just get over it. one day some tough african americans will capture the top spot again, but for now it belongs to europeans. there's nothing wrong with that. it IS an worldwide sport afterall. :good

The whole thing is a what if. What if they were exposed to boxing before basketball? What if they didn't have aboxing gym near them?

He was just simply saying its possible that some of these athletes could of been great boxers. Which its quite possible.

I would think a great heavyweight would come from football. Basketball players to me look a little skinny and lanky for heavyweight. Power in boxing is all in your fist and your forearms. Look at Tyson and Rocky Marciano. It dont get better than any of those two guys.

i understand what he's saying eze, and i agree it's possible. i suppose my main beef is it's quite regular on these boards with people claiming this and that because things are not the same at the moment. kind of like clockwork orange. keep pounding it in peoples heads and eventually people will start believing it etc.

also the arguement could be used the other way to. i mean, there are other countries around the world where boxing is not the national sport like australia. i mean, if more of our ruby league players were exposed to boxing, maybe us aussies would be kicking ass in the history books! (that'll never happen hehehe)

Being a great athlete does not equate being a great boxer. Just ask this guy:

Nothing wrong with his heart, though. He took a hellacious beating from Lewis and was in deep trouble against Golota as well.

Michael Grant would be playing Basketball or Football if he had the talent, truth is, most US athletic specimens who only box, don't do it by choice, they do it because they can't make it in football or basketball. Hell you think James Toney would have boxed if he was offered a scholarship to UM or OSU instead of WMU or some other mid major?

All the great athletes and potential boxers are either forwards and centers or linebackers.

No, you are really mistaken. Swimming isn't just technique. There are certain physical traits needed to be upper tier and LeBron doesn't have them.

LeBron also would be **** in baseball because of his build.

Athleticism doesn't translate to all sports at the highest level.

LeBron would be an amazing WR, but that is about it.

I still think he had a chance if he wasn't thrown to the Lennox wolves. His Golota fight showed he had heart and enough raw boxing skill that he could have done much better with his career.

He had no business fighting The ****.

Too slow, too plodding, and not enough handspeed. Wouldn't translate.

I don't know about swimming, but Lebron could definitely play baseball. He could definitely be an outfielder, and if he had a life time of playing, I'm sure he would be an above average hitter.

Looking at football, he could play WR or TE on offense, if he had the mindset on defense he could probably play CB, FS, SS, or DE.
