just fighters who never won the title off the top of my head. Iv stated this wasnt the definitive list and my disclaimer stated I would be missing fighters
The top 3 are Norton Povetkin Golota personally I cant see why povetkin would be this high, only because wilder ran from him perhaps and didn’t get a fair shake v wlad maybe
I voted for Povetkin, but didn't know exactly what you were looking for...To me, he is probably the best combination of skilled, well conditioned, and consistent fighter on the list. His pro loses were to other Olympic Gold Medalists who were just much bigger than him, and one was after Povetkin's prime years. In a time where Povetkin could match his skills without being overpowered physically, he might well have been a long time champion. He was big for most eras at 6-2, 220-30, had one of the best inside games I've seen at heavyweight, was always in condition, was tough, he had no glaring weaknesses. His fight with Takam stands out to me as one of the better heavyweight fights I've seen. His last fight, he still showed skill, heart, and conditioning, but his reflexes and timing looked diminished, and he didn't react well when hit by Hunter. If he can afford it, he should retire before he loses to people that wouldn't have been competitive with him 5 years ago.
by nearly man I would probably mean 1- bad judging screwed them 2- lost in a fight then the champ tests positive 3- winning clearly then something happens - ko, quit, dq 4- always was on the wrong end of the decision on close title fights 5- politics kept them away from their shot and were aged out 6- beat world champions in non title fights, then when its a championship fight they can’t beat the same fighter they had already beat lots of intangibles
To me its Schulz who soundly beat Foreman and Botha in back to back fights and was screwed out if decisions. The win over Foreman would have made him lineal champ. So.e thi m.j k he also beat Moorer but I had it 115-113 for double M. The guy could flat out box but was short on power for sure.
yeah screwed 3 times in a row. I had him beating foreman. I thought he got outboxed by a roided Botha in a close fight (but sums up his luck never got decision) Rewatched MM fight I scored it a draw, once again. So close yet so far
Poll closed - surprising results 1- Norton (12 votes ) 2- povetkin (11 votes) 3-golota (10 votes) 4-Tua/ Schulz (4 votes) 5- shavers / mesi (2 votes) 6- ruddock - nil Povetkin surprised me. Schulz being so low is surprising too. cant see the reasoning pov being ahead of golota , Schulz, or even shavers but thats boxing !
Golota is the only one here that counts had Bowe defeated and beat himself twice ,it’s not close . Shultz was robbed against Foreman but Bowe had the recognizable title . Povetkin was nowhere near to getting the belt with Klitschko and AJ as a roadblock. Norton and Ali was very competitive and to get a win over Ali meant you probably had to win 10 rounds convincingly or stop him .
Schultz would have became a world champion if he wasn’t robbed by foreman, fighting a roided Botha and dropped a controversial loss to Moorer. So yes he does count as a nearly man. to get a win you had to win 10 rounds? Ok maybe in your world but norton should have beat ali. Povetkin made the list because wilder fled from him, and at that time pov was the favourite anything else you want to complain about? Why don’t you do your own nearly men thread since this is all wrong. I said at the start it was off the top of my head and the boxing dweebs always try and come in and one up you with comments with no substance
