The Odd Death of Arturo Gatti http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6884938/the-odd-death-arturo-gatti very good peice on Grantland about gatti
I'm glad the article is against the silly armchair psychologist argument you always read and hear of "he had so much heart in the ring which means it's impossible that he could have killed himself". As if life is that simple.
Gatti had so much heart that they had to kill him 10 times before he could last no more. Gatti was murdered by his ***** wife.
This article is bull****. It makes too many assumptions about Gatti's emotions during his career and at the time of death.
Thank you for the article. I havent actually read much into Gatti's character or life outside the ring. Good to hear a more human side to Arturo Gatti. ""My heart's too big. That's my downfall in life." But he never commited suicide. I dont care how emotional he was
I dont know how or why he died....... But I know that he lived a very meaningful life and Im glad that I got to see the heart and courage of a true warrior in the ring whenever Gatti fought.
The death was suspicious. The purse strap was apparently tested and wasnt likely to handle someone of Gatti's weight. His wife was the benificiary of his life insurance policy. That's why I have suspicions that she killed him....not because I think I can assess man's inability to commit suicide by watching him fight.
I actually think the opposite. It takes a man with extreme conviction to actually kill himself. Many people think about it, but only a few actually go through with it. A childhood friend of mine committed suicide not too long after high school. He was an athete and anything but a weak character. In a perverse way, it took a lot of balls for him to pull the trigger when the gun was next to his skull.
