The Official 2017 End of Year Glass Jaw Awards inc video

Folks, I am officially declaring 2017 the year of “Shattered Glass”. Never before have we had so many fragile mandibles starched in a calendar year. In fact, such as the severity of the shakeup, I can hardly recognise my own rankings.

As many people on here already know, the monthly Glass Jaw rankings which have been a staple of this site for years and one of the biggest revenue generators for ESB, are designed and developed by a highly complex and intricate algorithm too detailed to be spoken about here. The rankings will remain the #1 independent resource for punch resistance comparison on the internet, and I hope it will continue for many years to follow. Or at least until Wilder get’s starched.

After embarking on a period of extensive research, let’s take a journey together down memory lane and relive some of the biggest exposures of the year…who purchased their chin from Roy Jones’ World of Glass?

    Enter the Glass Realm.

Erikson Lubin vs Jermell Charlo – 1st round KO

Absolutely atrocious whiskers on display from Lubin, this could very well be an ATG Glass Jaw in the making. We may have seen the new Amir Khan. The punch Charlo landed didn’t even look that hard and looked more like a glancing blow, it had no leverage and even Charlo himself looked shocked at the way Lubin just folded like a piece of origami.

    Immanuwel Aleem vs Hugo Centano

Centao hadn’t stopped an opponent in 5 fights previous to this and was a big underdog in this bout, suffice to say there was a huge surprise when he managed to deliver one of the most brutal one-punch KO’s of the year exposing Aleem’s dismal Glass Jaw.

    Trent Broadhurst vs Dimitry Bivol

Poor Trent Broadhurst flew all the way from Australia to Monaco to be KO’d by Bivol and I think we can all say he did a fantastic job of it.

    Nathanael Wilson vs Johnny Phillips

Chris Eubank’s half brother and prospect Wilson gets dropped 3 times and stopped by a 1-1 novice, who displays some of the worst punching technique I’ve ever seen. Safe to say that Wilson’s career is on a fast track to no where.

David Howe vs Daniel Dubois + Dave Allen

In 2017 David Howe continued with his mission to become the Glassiest “David” at heavyweight by getting starched by both Dubois and also Allen. This was only 3 months after also being KO’d by fellow Brit Nathan Gorman. I would personally like to see Howe vs Tom Dallas for all the marbles.

    Patrick Nielsen vs John Ryder

The classic “Hit so hard the mouth piece flies into the crowd”.

    Conor Benn vs Cedrick Peynaud

Ok so he wasn’t KO’d, but going down twice HARD to a dude who’s 5-3 and comprehensively losing the fight but being gifted a hometown decisions earns “The Destroyer” a place on the list. Expect to see Conor Benn as a regular on the future monthly rankings if he ever decides to step up.

    Honourable mentions:

    David Price

    Ismael Sillakh

    Thomas Williams jr

    Artur Spilzka

    Bermane Stiverne

    Kudryashov

    Curtis Stevens

    Chad Dawson

Roy Jones Jr will be moved into the Hall of Fame and won’t be included in any future rankings.

Amir Khan and James Kirkland are both being given champion “Emeritus” status, meaning they will move back to the top of the rankings should they wish to fight again.

    Thoughts?

Tom Farrell should be right up there. Another standard issue Brit glass mandible.

Great list - some wonderful examples of shattered glass that we have seen this year.

And yes, Wilder will be on next year's list - IF he actually finally steps up.

The only thing worse than Wilder's chin is his reluctance to make big fights.

This is super entertaining. A great thread to end the year off at BN24/ESB.

    :campeon::risas3::applaudit::ARMS1:

I would like to add Roman Gonzalez to this list.

Just because a fighter gets knocked out, it doesn't mean that he has a glass jaw.

Whose glass jaws do you think will be shattered in 2018?

I think Okolie has a weak chin.

Imam fights in March. I predict his chin will get shattered like china plate on a tile floor.

What about Tete's win? He scored the fastest KO for a title match.

I figured one of you glass jaw deniers would show up eventually.

Listen up - glass jaws exist in boxing and most fighters have them to one degree or another. If you get laid out cold, particularly, chances are you're packing some china in that chinny-chin-chin!!!

The punch Charlo KO'ed Lubin with didn't look like it even landed cleanly.
