It was an appropriate comparison. Again though - a comparison doesn't mean you're putting someone up on the same pedestal as whoever they're being compared to, so there's no reason for you to defend Vargas against non-existent slandering of his name.

You clearly weren't paying attention tonight if you think of Rios as a pure brawler and not a boxer-puncher. Did you record BAD? If so, you should give it another viewing.

I already rematched it. Rios a boxer-puncher? GTFOH! He's a skilled brawler. And I'm hating to do this cause now I LIKE Rios, but you have his style mistaken.

If anything, Victor Ortiz is CLOSER stylewise to Vargas than Rios is. Only Ortiz obviously lacks the heart and toughness that Nando had, and he doesnt have Nando's skill set either.

I admit I overreacted.... with the insults. But the comparison was still flawed.

Both are passionate, hot headed Mexican Americans, from Oxnard who fight with alot of fire. THAT they have in common.

    Stylewise though they arent similar.

:huh How is Rios all that different stylistically from Ortiz? (with the exception of the Ortiz-Campbell fight, where Ortiz strictly boxed)

You're drawing a distinction here between skilled brawler and boxer-puncher that doesn't really exist. Rios comes forward, defends well, and lands hard textbook punches. Sure, you can call that skilled brawling - I guess. It also fits the description of a boxer-puncher. All this **** you're spouting about him sticking his chin out and blocking with his face was not evident throughout the majority of the Peterson fight. If Peterson landed well early, it's because he himself is an accurate offensive boxer.

THIS point is exactly what separates him from Vargas. Nando wasnt really a come forward guy. He was actually an agressive counterpuncher who was at his best when he laid back and picked guys apart who came at him. You can try to point out all the subtle details of Rios style that you want, but at the end of the way... he's still more a brawler than he is a boxer-puncher.

And Ortiz in my book has a higher skill and talent set then Rios, but I prefer Rios' style because he isnt a mental midget.

Rios style reminds me of Juan Diaz. He is a young fighter I hope he improves, at the moment he is limited.

Now Diaz is a pretty good comparison, only unlike the Baby Cow... Rios can punch.

I'm on the bandwagon. Tho Rios still has limited skills, I like his heart, guts and class. Another thing is he's with a very good trainer in Roberto Garcia.

Yes I watched it. Rios' skills not yet on the highest level. I'm more impressed with his heart, guts and class.

Rios is still young and he can definitely up his skills specially with a good trainer in Roberto Garcia.

I think he beats Soto as for Ortiz well ill have to see a little more of both, ive seen a lot of Victor but dont know how good he will end up being. A fight between these 2 wont happen for a while anyways. As this has the potential to be a big grudge match and promoters will probably wait for these guys to win titles and make a few more HBO or PPV appeareances.

But count me in on the Rios badwagon he made me a fan last night. I had only seen highlights of him before this was really the first actual fight ive seen of his.
