    yeah, but it makes a difference if the light-heavyweight involved, like Gibbons, made his reputation against other light-heavyweights rather than against heavyweights.

    Guys like Mickey Walker, Tommy Loughran, and Harold Johnson had multiple wins against actual top tier heavyweights. Gibbons is light on that, where ever Tex Rickard, who did the ratings for The Ring, chose to rate him.

    It is fair for any fighter to take whatever path builds his career,

    and I guess it is fair for the powers that be at the time to rate him where they want,

    but I think it also fair to point out who has heavyweight credentials and who doesn't.
