The Official BlackBall Margarito Thread

He's making some strange moves lately that are frustrating to fans. He's in a new position of power in the division. Give him time and hopefully he'll come back to earth. After all, this is a guy who made his record and reputation fighting anyone and everyone. He's a tough dude, just acting dumb now.

 

There doesn't seem to be any active top fighter who hasn't commited the same sins as Margarito. Roy Jones, Joe Calzaghe,Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather have all been accused of the careful selection of opponents .Antonio is hardly "keeping the division hostage". I wish everybody would fight everybody too, but apparently that doesn't happen anymore.

 

Well lets not get too hasty, Ive seen some strange, random things in boxing, Where a certain fighter is aparently ducking every name under the sun, before signing the fight and battering the guy he was sposed to be ducking in the first place.

Im gonna see who he actually does sign to fight before I give him too much stick.

The honest answer is that some people don't like fighters for their own personal reasons. It might be because they back another fighter and want to elevate their own heroes by tearing down others. So when a little flap occurs in the news, they jump all over it, pretending to hate the boxer BECAUSE of the alleged sins they've commited.

Truth is, a lot of people are using Margarito's recent moves to pretend it's the reason they hate him. But they really hated him before. This just justifies their hate.

For a PBF fan: This is used as a way to counter the claims that PBF ducked true competition, including Margarito. So now people say that Margarito is pulling the same crap (or in their eyes, much worse crap) than PBF ever did. So it's an attempt to invalidate criticism against their retired hero.

For Paul Williams fans, they can say that Paul is willing to fight anybody and that Margarito is just a ***** who is trying to take the easy road. What they don't consider is that Margarito had the same attitude and Williams coming up. Both willing to fight anyone to gain dominance. Paul is just not there yet, so he has to keep calling out anyone and everyone.

Then there's that weakest of arguments: That Margarito is an overblown WW who gives the appearance of strength by picking on all those poor, smaller welterweights. It's almost as though they want to claim that Margarito is actually a middleweight posing as a welter. Which is ridiculous since he always makes weight and has been a WW his whole career.

Hate is an emotional response posturing as reason.
