For a PBF fan: This is used as a way to counter the claims that PBF ducked true competition, including Margarito. So now people say that Margarito is pulling the same crap (or in their eyes, much worse crap) than PBF ever did. So it's an attempt to invalidate criticism against their retired hero.

For Paul Williams fans, they can say that Paul is willing to fight anybody and that Margarito is just a ***** who is trying to take the easy road. What they don't consider is that Margarito had the same attitude and Williams coming up. Both willing to fight anyone to gain dominance. Paul is just not there yet, so he has to keep calling out anyone and everyone.

Then there's that weakest of arguments: That Margarito is an overblown WW who gives the appearance of strength by picking on all those poor, smaller welterweights. It's almost as though they want to claim that Margarito is actually a middleweight posing as a welter. Which is ridiculous since he always makes weight and has been a WW his whole career.

Hate is an emotional response posturing as reason.

on one hand this is kind of true but on the other its not because what margarito is doing right now is completely silly in my eyes

a floyd fan can only make fun of the margarito fans ... but not margarito.. all of floyds situations were totally different because he was actually the top dog and had to sort threw different offers to make a decision ... margarito has no good offers on the table any more unless he just fights a bum fighter then fights cotto again which accomplishes nothing because it just leaves him where hes at now

a paul williams fan is basically in the same boat as the floyd fan.. plus it doesnt even matter because paul williams is talking about fighting people outside welterweight.. paul williams already is confident (by quote) that shane & margarito wont fight him ( not cause there scared but because of circumstance) all thats left at welterweight is clottey

so i mean its not even about calling margarito a ducker or soemthing or justifying another fighters actions but its just being frustrated because margaritos moves right now make absolutely no sense

well...

i hated him adfirst because when paul williams beat him he refused to shake paul williams hand because he thought he won..

then when he came back and beat up on golden johnson i liked him because instead of being damaged after the paul williams fight he came out fighting with a chip on his shoudler and i like that type of attitude...

i liked him even more after beating cintron because he was talking massive **** in the process..

cotto & marg was a toss up because i like both of them

but the **** he is pulling now is truly unprofessional and it has nothing to do with being a hater .... i just have a problem with people being unprofessional

i dont like when people go to award shows with no suits
i dont like when people dont shake hands
i dont like when people dont fight for petty reasons

why ?

With such high standards for how someone should act, you must hate a lot of fighters.

In the bigger picture of boxing, countless fighters have committed far worse transgressions than the ones you list. Marg not shaking Williams' hand because he thought he won? How does that stack up with the rampant trash talking that is commonplace among so many boxers today? Not wearing a suit to an awards show? Really? I can see this being a cause for Emily Post or Mr. Blackwell to call out Margarito, but a fight fan? That's a little odd.

Alright, that last paragraph I totally agree with. His moves don't make a lot of sense to me either. But it's recent and I'm willing to cut him some slack for the time being, considering how many brave, exciting and action-packed performances he's put out over the past few years.

But if it boils down to frustration, does that really justify a thread calling for him to be blackballed? Sounds hasty at the very least.

but trash talking is a choice and its some that is not frowned upon or looked at as strange...

but margo's poor display of sportsman ship after the fight made me mad... i mean no matter who it is fighters shake after the fight

take a look at damn near any fight and they shake after.. margo was just being childish... but thats besides the point because i gained my respect back in the next 3 fights... what he is doing now i cant condone

i mean i think its fair for the **** he is pulling.. lets say for some reason margarito needs to knock on some of these fighters doors

shane-oscar-paul williams- joshua clottey have totally justifiable reasons to decline margarito a fight...

so honestly what does that leave him?

its laughable..... what margarito is doing right now is totally unfair... i mean in the time he spent embarassing the sport and declining everyone if he had just taken an easy match... or even better just say he was taking some time off.. it would be respectable but in stead he is playing with everyones emotions- time & money and thats why i think this situation is totally and completely unprofessional

just imagine if you were a promoter and margarito is nowhere to be found denying all your fight offers to not only further YOUR FIGHTERS NAME but hes also cutting you off from getting money...

wouldnt that **** you off?

Yes it would. But as a fan, I'm willing to chalk this up as being newly #1 after years of toiling in obscurity. All I'm saying is give this a month. The day-to-day reportings of the press can paint a picture that isn't always entirely accurate or fair -- particularly when the people doing the finger-pointing are the spurned opponents.

but still even in that month what the hell is he trying to do?

im 100% sure he is never going to fight oscar after literally coming out to say that turning down shane is revenge....

so he is left with collazo & quintana... and that after that whats he going to do? fight cotto again? ok whoopee... you beat someone you already beat again and make your money... then what...

your looking at the same situation you were looking at before (now)... hes just running in circles if he is truly waiting for this cotto fight again... and if anything he is putting himself in even more danger because if cotto some how pulls off the victory.. then margarito will really be ****ed because nobody will be interested in fighting him.. it would be pointless.. he would have no belt and cotto would be the new number one...

he should have took shane clottey or williams when he had the chance.. now hes screwed in my opinion

He's just waiting for the Manny-Oscar winner. They are fighting at Welterweight and if either of them wins its a HUGE payday. Everyone knows he wants Oscar, but If Manny wins he'll take that fight!

I can't defend his intentions or strategy because I'm as outside the loop as anyone. But I have a suspicion that they just might be negotiating for money. I wouldn't count fights with Shane/Williams/Clottey out of the picture just yet.

It could all be a bad promotional team trying to keep him rested and healthy for the big money-maker with Cotto in June. I hope not, but that might be the reason too.

dog you cant be a fan of boxing

neither oscar of manny will fight margarito

oscar wont because he could make bigger fights with hatton & floyd
manny wont because margarito is not only to big but it makes no sense financially because if manny wins he could potentially take on hatton or floyd as well..

margarito is pricing himself out.. thats why this to me is the most stupid possible thing

they WANT COTTO AGAIN BUT THAT ACCOMPLISHES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

it doesnt raise his name wealth
its doesnt make a statement

all it does is put some extra money in his pocket... maybe margarito just has horrendous management
