Lebedev is very serious and protective of his Russian background.

I've been watching Lebedev since his comeback fight. This guy aint no joke.

 

The real story is that there are many guys like him in Russia. They were not standout amateurs so the only other avenue was fighting professional in a land where it is next to impossible to earn a living wage. So much talent goes undeveloped over there. While every other whiney American, with a golden horseshoe up their ass, seems to get a powerfull promoter, TV deal and a wheelbarrow full of money for accomplishing nothing.

 

Maybe because his last name means swan, and his nickname is white swan, and a white swan is a military aircraft.

Dennis has worked his ASS OFF to where he is today. This man is a force to be reckoned with.

 

There's many guys like that in America too who need to keep day jobs or quit because they can't make enough to earn a living. Probably 95% of pro boxers need to keep regular day jobs. And just as many Russians with big amateur backgrounds go into boxing as Americans.

 

I have read many of your posts and you certainly seem to know a great deal about boxing but you are incorrect about this. It is not about having a day job. It is about opportunity. There is basically no professional boxing infrastructure over there. Less places to train, get fights, find promoters ect. ect.

And NO, not just as many heralded Russian amaterus go pro as Americans, not by a long shot. In fact over the past five years. more Cuban Olympians have turned pro than Russians.

Americans have soooo many more opportunities to break into pro boxing, it is staggering. However many Americans complain and spin doctor the situation. Saying how people have little interest over here and other sports are taking their best fighters. If they only knew what it was like in Eastern Europe.

AFAIK he is not former paratrooper or commando or something like that. It seems the gym where he is based is connected with some veterans association.

 

Lebedev looks very impressive since his comeback. I am looking forward to watching his next fight. I favor him over Huck because Huck is open sometimes. He loses his head and goes in wild exchanges.
