I could never find it within myself to forgive someone who sought to permanently deprive me of a loved person.

Intentionally being the operative word. Valero was on heavy drugs. I'm sure his logic revolves around the fact that Valero wasn't in his right mind when he killed her and thus not intentional. I highly doubt I would forgive him even if the drugs made him do it though. Well, if he was drugged against his will then... maybe.

The Valero tragedy is the saddest thing i ever encountered in 30 years of watching boxing.

Every fighter should be followed by a nutritionist or be taught how to remain healthy while making the weight.

The guy is dead. Hating him won't make him any deader. Meantime he has to raise those two kids with the knowledge that their dad killed their mum and then himself.

He's doing the right thing. Leave all that behind and focus on what he can do not what can't be changed. Good on him.

Perfectly reasonable to hate someone for killing your sister, especially how he treated her in general though. Each to their own I suppose !

Exactly as it’s not within us to forgive acts like this and anyone thinks otherwise is either a saint or has never been in such a position.

I'm not saying it's not reasonable, but it's not particularly healthy either.

I don't think pretending to be over things is healthy either though.

-"When you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves." - Chinese proverb.

I agree with you Aston, but I think the rationale behind people who do forgive (whether they know it or not), is that significantly eases up the incessant gnawing of vindication which must consume those who've been aggrieved.

Saying that though, I've read lots of accounts of relatives who felt a lot better after seeing the murderer of their loved on executed on Death Row, and in the animal kingdom tit for tat killings is the norm particularly amongst the African Big 6 for example

In this guys case, Valero is long dead so any hope of an eye for eye is long gone unless he went full postal and targeted his relatives of course, which would let's face it be tantamount to madness.

You are making in my view a false equivalence between letting go of hatred and being over something. I'm not sure also how you are so sure he's pretending.

But we are way off boxing and I think it's better to agree to disagree on this one.
