When you understand something (or you think you do) then it’s hard to stay with your rage. When you accept something the rage disappears. When you stay with your rage you just prolong your torment, it doesn’t make sense logically, it’s not pragmatic. Emotions fade unless you continually stoke those fires. If you hold onto your rage it just transforms into rage against existence. I feel deeply sorry for anybody who isn’t intelligent or honest enough to get to that point of forgiveness. I think it would be very rare for someone not to reach that point, because ultimately it’s that or self destruction to add onto the top of whatever happened. Then you also pass on suffering to anybody else who knows you. That’s a poor way to exist, and arguably evil in itself.

That sounds like something a religious nut would come out with, terribly ignorant.. I know a man in his 70's now. When I was a kid, his son (roughly my age) was abducted, murdered and found down a drain. Construction worker the father, multi millionaire, young family, perfect all round happiness. He and his wife are educated people(intelligent people), it destroyed them. The guilt of not being able to protect their boy from evil, the guilt of them living and him dead destroyed everything they had, they couldn't move on as they felt they had failed him, I so understand that. I see that man in the pub sitting on his own, old, staring out the window at nothing, I have tried to make convo with him over the years but theres no life in him, everyone's the same with him, they try to involve him but hes dead inside. His wife turned to drink and they split up not long after the murder. His brothers took over the business and turned it in to one of the biggest construction companies this countrys ever seen, he wants for nothing financially, but if it wasn't for his daughter he would've topped himself years ago.. I would find it very hard to use the term "unintelligent" when describing that man, broken and destroyed is more fitting... He would kill the man who killed his son to this very day !

I thought it was a thoughtful post about a difficult subject. To your example, undoubtedly very sad. Some people undoubtedly cannot forgive, cannot move on. It's not always like that though? Here's another father who lost his son in a terrible brutal attack. He's even shook hands with some of the people who may have ordered it. The point is, generalising about these things is rarely helpful. Some can forgive, some can't. It doesn't mean the former loved their lost ones any less.

Good people are capable of doing bad things and vice versa which is precisely why you couldn’t possibly expect em to be able to forgive as it’s such a grey area.

Yes pretty much this, the problem I have is that we should all be able to forgive anyone for absolutely anything and of course that’s presuming those involved are truly sorry and show genuine remorse.
