Yes. Yes, yes. Tyson is the greatest HW athlete since Ali, the greatest composite puncher in the history of one of the oldest divisions in the history of the sport and one of it's greatest champoins - a head to head nightmare, his athletic/skillset combination may be unparalleled in forever.

A world class trainer under his original team, Tyson "ate and slept boxing", running in the morning, training in the afternoon, and reviewing fight footage, Johnson ("very uninteresting") to Louis ("you define greatness by longevity") up to Patterson ("i never saw a HW with quicker handspeed") and beyond. But his favourite was Dempsey ("might even be the best") who he modelled himself upon.

Certainly he was every bit as aggressive as Jack - and how:

Cus was like a father to him. I know i'm in the minority, but I don't like the relationship. Cus did to much to brush the early mis-behaviour under the carpet, to much to protect Mike from his personal responsibility - and I dislike the story where a nervous Mike tells Cus of his uncertainty with girls, and Cus departs, returns with a baseball bat, hands it to the future heavyweight kingpin and tells him to "hold onto it, because you'll need it to fight off the girls when you are champ". Anyway, inspite of my reservations, there is no question that Tyson lost his way upon losing Cus (and others):

But during his peak? Mike was a monster, a brilliant exponent of the art that drove him

  6. Tyson was a good Heavyweight from 86-89 until Douglas beat his ass, it was all downhillfrom there:-(
And another thing Tyson wasn't by any stretch of the imagination the best heavy since Ali, that was Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, both of whom beat his ass.

Depends on whether you're going in for longetivity or prime. I think a peak Tyson beats them both.

  8. Longetivity:deal... Peak is always a matter of opinion and subjective, and myself and many, many others will attest that both Lewis and Holy would have beat a "prime" Tyson, Lewis was physically superior, and Holy was stronger mentally, Tyson fought Holy when he was only 30, and still formidable AND was was KO'D...
