I agree that Golota shouldnt fight Mollo. It wouldnt do him any good. I oppose anybody fighting Holyfield. That guy is asking to become mentally disabled, and I wouldnt like Golota to be the one who grants him his wish, although a fight against Holyfield would get very much publicity.

As long as he steps it up in his next bout and stays active.

    Go Andrzej!!

True. And it kinda makes sense, that if Holyfield couldn't get it done, by beating him justifies another AG title shot, if you ask me.

Mr. Golota will most likely get a title shot, regardless. And if you look at today's champs, Golota can take on any one of them. It's just a matter of time.

I have reservations about Golota against Wladimir, for what I assume are obvious reasons.

Manny knew the scoop on Golota ahead of the rest, and he had Lennox ready to pounce (although, contrary to popular belief, Lewis did not come out guns'a'blazing against Golota).

Lewis noticed how stiff and cold Golota was and he tested him almost immediately. Then he got the feeling and finished the job. The rest is history. If Golota ever got the chance to go a few rounds with Lewis, then Lewis would have had his hands more than full.

I remember that night (& the sick feeling in my gut afterwards) like was yesterday. Went over a friends in Staten Island to watch it. I was expecting another Bowe/Golota feasco. I was wondering for weeks leading up to the fight if Golota could keep his punches up & after 90 seconds or so, I didn't have to worry anymore.

Something just wasn't right that night. With AG's knee injury (supposedly getting an injection that was administered wrong) & with him not even being in the arena until shortly before the fight. He messed that one up royally.

How ironic would it be if Golota fought Holyfield and ended up scrambling his brains as he did Bowe?

At this point his purpose in the sport would be obvious. His next move would be to lure Tyson out of retirement and do a job on him.

True that. Many said Lewis jumped on Golota and this is true. But only after it quickly became obvious how cold and inhibited Golota was. Lewis actually looked pretty cautious at the start of the fight. Then he noticed Golota wasn't even throwing any punches. :patsch

That was definitely the most disappointing and shocking night of boxing I had ever experienced. At that time Golota was thought to be an unbeatable, dirty fighting, killing machine after what he did to Bowe. I never expected it to end so quickly like that. But after the announcers said Golota hadn't shown up to his dressing room yet I remember thinking "oooooooohhhhhhh ****......"

    YES!!

Lewis did look his ordinarily cautious self. He fired some quick jabs early-on, and damn if that wasn't the quickest sharpest Lewis ever looked moving fluidly about the ring.

The moment where I think Lewis realized he was going to take a chance was when he backed into the corner, and Golota just stood in front of him measuring.

Lewis was always well prepared, and he must have seen both of the Bowe fights where Golota came out firing the jab like mad. That he DIDN'T fire any jabs when he had Lewis cornered was, IMO, Lewis's moment of realization that Golota was extremely cold.

He tested his chin not long after.

To this day, I believe you can see a look of surprise on Lewis's face. He was ready to go that night, and I'm not sure he was in better shape at any point in his career. Don't forget, his two previous bouts were real stinkers with McCall and Akinwande, whereas Golota's two previous bouts were all-out wars with Bowe.

Good post Rums. And yes, Golota almost always comes out jabbing at the very start of the bell. But against Lewis, Golota didn't throw anything, he simply put his gloves up in that traditional Eastern Euro stance to try and block Lewis punches. Even Jim Lampley noticed this and said Golota looked so much more tentative than he appared to be agains Bowe. It became obvious to Lewis very quickly than Golota was ripe for the taken.

It certainly could have been. I'm not saying Golota would have won. Infact mental case 1997 version of Golota probably would have ****ed it up somewhere, but at least the crowd would have gottin their moneys worth if he had showed up prepared and ready to fight. This fight could have been a great battle while it lasted. Both had great jabs, Golota had the better chin. Both had awesome straight right hands. Lewis had that killer uppercut. Golota threw the better combinations punches and Lewis had the better left hook. Great match up! Both in their primes. Such an unbelievable disappointing blowout...:-(
