Very nice Jets. Looks like a good place to hang out at for a week and clear your head. Although I would have taken care of that spiderweb via blow torch with a can of hairspray and a match!

Are you a Pavlik fan? 3 weeks 'till he punishes B Hop. You gonna buy that PPV?

I'm so pissed. Being out of work, my wife is screaming we can't afford to go. And that friend of her's at her job who got us tix for Cotto Gomez Margarito Cintron in the spring may not come through this time even though he's well aware that I'm drulling for some tickets!!!

Wouldn't miss it! I do not have cable anymore but plan on going to a friend's house for Pavlik-Hops. I don't think he has Showtime and I hear they may air the Don King China card so I may have to bribe him to purchase Showtime for a month.

    What are friends for. :jjj

Still out of work, Jets? Man that stinks how you lost your job. Hopefully something will come your way soon. Until then, get to work on that Golota-Bowe painting! Who knows, you may end up making some cash off of it. Or, just donate it to me. :!:

    Oct. 4th, 1997...

L Lewis + injection in a bad knee + showing up late = one bad night for Golotafans.

    Tomorrow.

    :-(

I remember it well. Was one of the worst feelings I have ever experienced. I knew Golota had a few screws loose, but I really thought Golota was damn near unstoppable after seeing what he did to first Doc Nicholson and then Bowe. All that was gone in just 98 seconds. What a bizarre, and horrific evening. One I shall not ever forget.

I wonder if the shot of lidocaine really had much to do with Golota getting blown out by Lewis. We all saw what Tyson and Brewster did to Golota. It was weird how Golota was not even throwing any punches in that first round. He usually comes out jabbing, but he did nothing against Lewis. Perhaps the lidocaine really effected Golota's ability. Golota always comes trying to establish the jab, even when cold the first round. He came out jabbing against Grant, Byrd, Ruiz, and even against both Tyson and Brewster he was throwing punches. Against Lewis, he did virutally NOTHING but eat leather.

Man, what a party spoiler for you, I hope you were drunk enough to off-set some of the shock! Golota did the exact same thing in Chicago. That one must have been even WORSE though, being in Golota's home town and all with even more cheering Poles than against Lewis. I came very close to flying to Chicago and attending that fight, but changed my mind at the last minute.

Lewis and Manny knew exactly what they were doing to Golota. Lewis said he observed Golota's weaknesses when he saw him at the Soul Olympics. Lewis and Manny wrote the blueprint for how to beat AG. Pain killers or not, i think the end would have been thesame.

Yes, I remember hearing something about that. I recall Manny claiming there was a good chance the fight could end in the first two rounds just a few days before the fight.

Golota has always, and will always be vulnerable in the first round. But at least now, I think his handlers are finally aware of this problem and work with Golota on what things he can do to avoid getting iced early.

I've always wondered what role (if any) the lidocaine injection played, as well.

And you hit the nail on the head--he was NOT jabbing, which was a stark contrast to his previous bouts with Bowe.

Whether it was nerves, the lidocaine, or both, we may never know.

Even when Golota had Lewis cornered briefly, he didn't throw anything.

Lewis obviously sensed Golota's tentativeness, and not long after, he landed that straight right/left hook combo (which was the best left hook I ever saw Lewis deliver in his entire career).

Golota was finished then and there, essentially, for Lennox knew he was hurt, and he was an OUTSTANDING finisher.

Exactly! I cannot recall a single fight, other than the Lewis fight, where Golota came out and did NOTHING! The bell rang, Golota immediately put his gloves up and went into defense mode. Golota usually looks cold and tight in the first round, but nowhere near the way he looked against Lewis.

My conclusion: It was a very bad combination of several things.

    1. The lidocaine injection indeed had an effect on Golota.

    2. Golota was very nervous, like he usually is. Maybe more so being this was his first title fight and he was still fairly young and green back then.

    3. He just came off that brutal war against Bowe which changed, or even ruined both fighters for life.

    4. Golota has always been a vulnerable sitting duck in the first round.

    5. He was getting hit by Lennox Lewis! Also, as Izolnier pointed out, Lewis had prior knowlege of Golota's vulnerability in the first round, and took full advantage of it.

BTW, how sad is it that we are still analyzing this Golota loss 11 years later!!:-(
