I agree with this, and regardless of what anyone says, I believe he redeemed himself after the Tyson debacle.

He has nothing more to prove, and in his second career from 2003-onwards, he fought with more heart and mental toughness than he did in his 'first' career when he was physically superior and much more talented.

No shame in retiring now. He gave it a fighting chance.

Some people couldn't take the heat, such as when Gilberg had his meltdown after the Brewster fiasco, some were fair-weather fans like Scar, and others came and went over the years.

It's actually quite funny.

Were it not for the Ultimate Golota Forum, I may never have started posting on boxing forums.

There were some nutjobs over there back in the day.

werewolf, Gilberg, Jackal, ****....I forget some of the other usernames. Surel JETSKI will remember a bunch of the old regulars.

And the messgae boards have been as much a part of the 'journey' as what happened inside the ring.

 

I wonder how many of those guys post here (or posted here) under other monikers?

I know Gilberg was SugarWladdy and RuizJabAndGrab.

 

Be sure to tell him that an aspiring young film director is interested in making a movie about his life both inside and outside the ring!

And wish him luck! Tell him there's no shame in retiring now, and despite what those bogus judges said, he became an unofficial unified champion--and did so when he was past his best.

Which makes me wonder how Andrew's career may have unfolded had he signed with King in the mid-90s. Regardless, water under the bridge.

He had one of the most interesting careers of any pugilist to ever lace up the gloves.

Lou, I never thought I'd say this but I really want to see him retire. There's no need to continue.

I really think after the win over Mollo, he should have hung them up, but I can see why he pressed on. But this is the end, man.

His body is no longer cooperating. He's slower, and his reflexes aren't nearly good enough anymore. It's actualy amazing how well he performed with a bum left arm ever since the Grant fight.

And in the Austin fight, you can see him making the right actions and still doing some of the right things, but it's almost like it's on a delay. His body isn't responding, and it's battle-worn.

Hoax made a great point earlier. He was rocked early in most of his recent fights. Part of that is because he has usually been a slow starter, but part of that is because he lacks the speed he once had.

I do not want to see him continue. Despite what must have been a major disappointment for him, Hoax is right--his body is telling him something.

It sucks, because we all know the DESIRE is still there, but sometimes that just isn't enough, and Andrew has reached that stage.

He had a good career and should be proud. But he SHOULD call it a career.
