It is so obvious to anyone with half a wit, that the statement which "cop" made was a blatantly racist one, I'm amazed that anyone is actually willing to defend it, considering that virtually all Polish immigrants were the subject of the exact same ridicule (eg., lazy, unemployed, drunk, violent and inherently inferior), not more than 50 years ago. As Florian Znaniecki, in his classic sociology study on the "Polish Peasant in America" points out, these stereotypes also had a backbone of statistical support "proving" that Eastern Europeans in general but Polish immigrants in particular were disproportionatly inflating the crime, unemployment, and welfare percentages all over the US, especially in Chicago. For the mentally challenged like cop, who conviniently take statistics at face value - whereas any one remotely familiar with how to handle statistcs can tell you that, without further explanation and context, stats are meaningless - there was a great deal of resentment and discrimination against the new Polish migrants, the effects of which can still be felt today, in some quarters in America. Some of you have already gone on record defending his offensive racist comments about the car accident, without realizing that not more than 50 years back, he'd be the same sort of numb nuts grumbling that all those Polaks should get back on the boat from which they came. My advice is to critically re-examine what he said and to consider the hurtful implications those comments can have for others and for yourself.

All I can see is that the Poles are brave, strong, hard working, and superior drinkers. Not to mention that many of the ladies make for some really pure "solid" breeding stock. They come to the U.S. and within months they're employed and successful, and their kids are going to grad school and move onto big positions in all quarters of America. Polish jokes are only told in America, by other "migrants" who are envious.

Every quality thread should have its "house rules" and its members should take note when they have been seriously crossed. Allowing a long time member to carelessly throw around hatefully motivated comments about an entire ethnic group of people (and this has been a persistant pattern of his), stains the entire reputation of this thread and turns it into something other than its intended purpose. Currently, one may glance through some of its pages and mistake it for a neo-Nazi chit-chat. Is this how you would like your thread to be remembered?
