He can do it. But he looks stronger and has less love handles at the higher weight. That won't convince the non-believers (I'm in the lean towards no camp but really don't have a enough confidence to venture one way or the other in terms of voting in the poll).

Bradley has such a wasteful physique for boxing. So deterimental. It's no wonder why he pushes punches and looks cumbersome stringing multiple punches.

I like Donaire, and don't dislike Marquez either, but I can't support Donaire working with Conte or Marquez working with Heredia. When you bring a guy like that onto your team and suddenly display capabilities you'd never shown before at such an advanced age, consider the past history of Conte and Heredia, that'd rightfully generate suspicion. It comes with the territory of hiring guys like that.

Donaire is still young and in his prime, and he's tended to hold big physical advantages over the opponents throughout his career anyway. He's always displayed big power, but if he's still one-shotting dudes at 140 as a 36-37 year old? I'd be dubious. I'd even be a bit suspicious if Donaire murked somebody like Uchiyama in the near future.

Marquez and Manny have fought 3 times, and Marquez has caught Manny flush a bunch of times, sometimes even when Manny was in even worse position (can't remember the specific fight, but I remember Manny being caught be a flush hook when one of his feet was off the ground and he was looking away, and it still didn't drop him.) His punches NEVER had that much of an affect on Manny before. And it's happening very late in his career to boot.

We were all suspicious of Barry Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, etc. when they suddenly gained an unreal power surge and were better than ever very late in their careers. Given Heredia's past and Marquez never demonstrating that kind of power earlier in his career, it's definitely a little suspicious.

If Marquez were working with somebody other than Heredia or Conte, and if Manny had shown more signs of a declining chin recently, I'd be pretty sure Marquez was clean. Manny's been running into flush punches and eating big counters from Marquez for years, and then in this fight he gets put to sleep. Say if Bradley had put him down or stunned him in his last fight, it'd be much more believable to think he might fall victim to someone who hadn't previously been able to hurt him like Marquez.

Still, regardless of whether Marquez is juicing now or isn't, Manny still has no one to blame but himself for either not taking advantage of lousy testing regulations to juice up himself, or for not demanding blood tests, Floyd style.

Honestly, Manny hasn't really looked that great since the Margarito fight. His decline in physical attributes is right along the lines of how most athletes usually decline physically as they age without "help." You don't suddenly display amazing power or speed this late in your career. If a "great strength and conditioning program" was all it took to be better than you ever were in your prime from a physical standpoint, Kobe Bryant would still be destroying people off the dribble and dunking on people relentlessly. But he isn't.

You can get more skilled the longer you're doing something, but typically declining physical attributes at the same time mean you're not as good at implementing those techniques as you were years earlier. Marquez completely dominating and outboxing Manny 12-0 right now would have been a lot more believable than a savage KO, considering Manny showed no evidence of declining punch resistance before he got KO'd by Marquez in December.

Marquez is innocent until proven guilty, but the usual things that happen to most athletes (but not Marquez) as they age, Manny's punch resistance not showing signs of decay before Marquez, and Heredia all cast some doubt on whether he is clean or not.

He is highly suspect due the the amount of reasons already posted in this thread.

But as always, innocent until proven guilty.

  4. Anybody with common sense and logic knows Marquez was on something lol. There's nothing to debate. You don't go from being a sweat your azz of to get a W stage in your late 30's TO knocking out the best fighter in the world unconcious lol. Lets be real.

I don't buy it - Marquez trained like an animal, it's not like he was dominating Pacquiao. Pacquiao made a wreckless lunge forward, falling forward, chin out into a punch - any other boxer would be KO'd by that kind of momentum

Marquez was taking punishment in rounds 5 and 6 - so not sure how people can say he must be on something. The round 3 KO was a lot more surprising to me, that's the one that makes you ask questions.

But as I say, Marquez trained like an animal and has to get the benefit of the doubt for being in great physical condition. Pacquiao should stop being arrogant and adopt a strength program again himself instead of just doing 2 months on the mitts and on the bag with some sparring in the last month - that won't cut it

Weigh in pictures are the worst possible source for this purpose, btw... LOL. If you're looking for actual pictures to compare his body, use actual fight pictures.

Yes, who isn't? I think though, unlike others, he just started. There's too much money in boxing and the quality of opposition is mediocre. FORTY year olds can still rule. PEDs are boxing's viagra.

You're grasping at the straws you can and ignoring happenings that point to Marquez being more than capable of knocking out fighters with good chins.

In all three previous fights with Marquez, Marquez would halt any Kamakazee advance by Pacquiao by landing clean, hard, accurate shots.

When you're making a fighter hesitant to let your hands fly freely as Pacquiao has been accustomed to do with power against almost every fighter since his featherweight days except against Marquez, then Pacquiao is respecting Marquez' ability to punch with power.

Did Marquez not knockout Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz, both who had never been knocked out before in dramatic fashion?
Juan Diaz had never been close to being stopped and Marquez laid him out.
Heredia was'nt involved in these fights.

Who say's Marquez did'nt have power before Heredia?????

Marquez even has a better KO% than Manny Pacquiao!
    Pacquiao has 38 ko's in 61 fights!
    Marquez has 40 ko's in 62 fights!

Dont come in here saying Marquez with Heredia is showing power he never displayed. Thats erroneous. He's always had Pacquiao's respect with his punching power as shown by Pacquiao in previous fights getting gunshy to throw with power against Marquez.

Pacquiao was asked after he got KO'd whether he felt Marquez power had increased and Pacquiao said no, that he did'nt believe that.
Pacquiao's assertion and belief is that he just got careless and ran right into the shot.

Lets look at the difference for Marquez between fights 3 and 4 with Pacquiao.
In fight 3, Marquez fought within himself, throwing 2 and 3 punch clean connect combinations and moving to the lateral to reset so that Pacquiao did'nt have the opportunity to land big shots in the midst of multi-punch combinations of more than 3 shots.
Team Marquez' emphasis going into fight 3 was for Marquez to avoid the canvas so that the excuse to give Pacquiao the fight would'nt be that, as it had been in previous fights.
Marquez accomplished that, boxed a clinic, and they still gave it to Pacquiao! :nut:lol:

Time to change that plan for fight 4. Team Marquez said from the beggining of the hype leading up to fight 4 that their intentions were to take it out of the hands of the judges if at all possible.

Power with the right hand was the plan. Its on the 24/7's and other video Marquez working to loadup with the fight hand.

Though Marquez has always landed clean and hard with the right hand against Pacquiao in previous fights, the plan never was and he never worked before fight 4 to loadup with that right hand.
This time team Marquez did, and they got the results they looked for and practiced in training camp!

Marquez worked on it, he practiced, he accomplished!
Marquez KO history shows he was capable of it!

    Good post man.

The "Marquez had no power before" line is one of the more annoyingly wrong arguments spewed out here.

As you say, better KO% than Pacquiao. Has 6 One Punch KO's on his resume from the fights I've seen. Has Pacquiao that many? When was Pacquiao's last one punch KO before Hatton? Marquez had one 3 fights ago.

I also hate the 'He couldnt hurt Pacquiao in 3 fights' argument. Such BS. He very nearly had Pacquiao down in the first 2 fights.

This punch from the first fight, if the GIF went on a little longer, had Pacquiao wobbled and weak-legged against the ropes. Did well not to go down.

Then there was this from the second fight. That left hook had him out momentarily while in the air, look at his eyes. Miracle he didn't go down.

The dynamics of every punch are different. You do not always get the same results from the same punches, regardless of whether they look identical or not. That's a fact.

During the 3rd fight, Juan fought a more patient defensive fight, not looking to land bombs etc.

The 4th fight, he went on the offensive more-so than he has in any of the previous fights. And people are surprised he was able to hurt Pacquiao?

These arguments about him being 'miraciously' able to hurt Pacquiao 'all of a sudden' are utter BS.

He didn't hire him for no reason. He hired him because he's a good S&C coach who's worked with Olympic athletes.

Cry a little more though. :|
