HDNet does have the World GP Final scheduled to air live (unlike the World MAX Final). :happy Take a nap Friday evening. It's penciled in from 2-7am EST.
That reads very ominous. If K-1 goes DREAM is also finished. And so is Japanese MMA.... Very bad news for K-1 fans much less for MMA. There is no other premier KickBoxing Organisation in the world. :-(
All is clearly not well at FEG but while Zach Arnold was one of the first western sources to bring up the Pride yazuka scandle he's also well known to be a doom merchant, probabley because he's a Japanese Pro Wretsling fan who dislikes MMA for the damage it did to it.
As long as K-1 remains, it's all fine for me. I don't think K-1 would vanish anyways ... how did they do it back in 1993? They could even go back to that format.
Na thats not true. Arnold was being laughed at when the Pride scandal broke. He kept saying how it was the beginning of the end and Pride was basically finished yet the likes of sherdog and others ignored it. I remember when Pride lost there TV deal and Sherdog didnt say a thing. K-1 at the moment reminds me of when New Japn Pro-wrestling was having a bad time. Less than 4 weeks before the biggest show of the year and it doesnt have a finalised card. Thats insane. Nobody wants K-1 to fail but the signs are not good. Lets not forget we still have fighters like Goodridge who say they have not been paid.
The thing is he's been saying its the beginning of the end for just about every peice of negative news over the past 5 years. So while things are clearly not well with FEG I don't really put too much stock in his analysis. As far as Dynamite goes while there are clearly problems the card not being finalized a month beforehand is not uncommon at al(although you would expect 1-2 matches to have been)l. Last minute booking at leaking matches one at a time to get press interest have been part of NYE MMA for years.
I might actually cry if K1 falls. With the exception of "It's Showtime!", there are no other kickboxing organizations worth watching if FEG goes under.
How many are going to be troopers and stay up Friday night/Saturday morning? This could be the last Grand Prix you get to see live, and it should not disappoint. :good
Do you mean like a pub? I wasn't aware K-1 fights were well-known enough anywhere (outside maybe Japan) to be shown at public places. Hell, we don't even really have major PPV boxing shown in bars in most parts of the US...and haven't for most of my lifetime. If what you meant was where to watch "online", you're better off not barking up that tree, due to the forum rules here in particular. :good
If I didn't have a commitment already early on Saturday I would totally make a late night of it! I always get a kick out of watching K1 live. I really hope that K1 doesn't go under - but if it does - another kickboxing or MMA organization will arise to take it's place. The fighting sports have been part of the Japanese culture for the past century. Something will come along.
Fighting sports will always be around in Japan however will we see a organisation become mainstream again and cross over? I aint so sure. If K-1 goes under then New Japan Pro-wrestling is pretty much the biggest fight promotion in Japan and they are nowhere near as big as they used to be.
