needs a time machine to go back and beat paul williams and margarito....even then theyd say "but yeah look at paul williams hes in a wheelchair now".....and margarito is nothing but a flat footed punching bag with windmill punches and no defense

also needs bob arum to be willing to let his yes boy fight him so he can silence them once and for all....but bob dont know who to call....or hes waiting for someone to call him....whichever one it is today

He needs the middleweight title, even if he has to take it from Martinez or Cotto (who are admittedly past their best but still...middleweight title). And then he needs to defend against Pacquiao and/or GGG (GGG weighs as much as Alvarez so don't even try the too big excuse). If he does that, then how can you even argue? His problem is that there is only one challenge at 147 for him and he doesn't want it.

As of right now, Hopkins has 26+ years in pro boxing, linear champ in 2 divisions, 19 defenses of the middleweight title (ends in 2 robberies), unified 4 belts at middleweight, working on it at light heavyweight, and still keeping that championship form at 49. Mayweather can't touch that without challenging himself against a fellow HOFer (Pacquiao) and moving up for some heroics.

 

if cotto beats sergio(cant wait for this..im going) and floyd rematches cotto and beats him would you be mad?

if sergio wins id have to think floyd would look have to look at that one....because he cant let pac get to that first.....and given the choice..im sure sergio would rather fight floyd....at the same token....if floyd chose to go after thurman/porter would you be mad?

 

then he should go ahead and declare he fighting the winner of martinez -cotto esle he would be ducking martinez if he wins.

I would change my original opinion on Cotto being shot if he beats Sergio. He wouldn't be at his best (Sergio essentially lost to Murray) but a guy his size winning the title isn't shot. So that would be a really great win for Floyd, but he would be better off letting Alvarez or Pacquiao take the title if Cotto wins.

If Floyd goes after Porter or Thurman first I'll give him credit, but those guys haven't really beaten anyone yet. They could both become great fighters but it'd be an Alvarez type of win. I kind of hope Floyd does go after those guys first because if Pacquiao takes the middleweight title then Floyd vs. Pacquiao becomes extremely significant again.

 

the same thing you said about porter/thurman can be said about GGG....i know that GGG is fun to watch...an animal.....but his resume is severly lacking on the same level as porter/thurman.......GGG needs a win of signifigance to even entertain the thought of that fight....otherwise its a no win for floyd....even though the weight class of that fight would add for floyd....in the long run a win would do virtually nothing for him as people would claim he isnt as good as we thought he was

 

The reason I mention GGG is because if Floyd wins the middleweight title, there will be talk of him ducking GGG if that fight doesn't happen. People already think of GGG as the people's champ at 160 because Martinez is blatantly ducking him and not even pretending not to. So fighting GGG has to come with the territory of winning the title at 160. By the time this even happens GGG may have beaten Chavez, Froch, and Quillin.

Fighting Porter and Thurman would look more like capitalizing on inexperience. They are both newcomers who aren't being avoided. GGG has been around for a while not getting the unifications he wants.

 

if GGG has beaten chavez, froch,and chocolate then who could argue.....martinez taking on cotto instead of GGG could be likened to pac taking on cotto as opposed to shane at the time.....

but the whole GGG thing....just doesnt seem likely at least to me....because right now, "peoples champ" or not, he doesnt have a resume defining fight....not even one(whether thats his fault or not its just true)....and by the time he gets one or two its probably a little late.....
