I voted Top 1-3 hw but probably should have voted GOAT HW, which he probably was (you can argue for Louis being ahead of him but thats it.)

Im sorry but all you guys arguing this are ****ing stupid.

Ali is the best heavyweight of all time, what he accomplished as a heavyweight hasn't been duplicated yet.

But what makes him the greatest is how he transcends the sport. What he was as a person has given him his immortality, he was simply the greatest. There will never be a boxer greater. SRR is p4p a better boxer, but he is not as great as Ali.
If you cant understand that then its your loss at the end of the day.

Think, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. Even if (for arguments sake) someone comes with more skill, they will never be as great as Jordan.

And even Jordan has nothing on Ali in terms of world greatness.

If you dont understand this, then its just unfortunate for you. There is no point in arguing about it.

He may be over-rated by people who say he was God, but they are only a few. Most people who judge him fairly do come to the conclusion that he was either #1 or #2 GOAT. He is over-rated if people say he is superman, but in the eyes of most knowledgeable people he isn't over-rated as top 1-2 HW, because that's what he was.

People always use the head to head argument, but you can't really use head to head to compare ATG'ness across generations.

You sound delirious! What did he do as a person that was so great? No one can answer this, they just say "How dare you even question him!"

I think someone needs to create a universal definition of the term 'great' too, because in boxing context, I tend to use it when analysing a fighter's skill level, whereas you seem to be using it to describe his mysterious undefined God like deeds he allegedly committed outside the ring.

Boxing needs to agree on a universal definition of 'great' then.

That is a dictionary definition of the word, not a definition of what great means in boxing terms.

Surely you can't have missed the point that widely?

    You have missed the point.

    Great isnt a "boxing term"

    Its a real world term.

You are confusing the word "best" with "great".

It can be used in the context of boxing though.

I am saying there is some confusion as to what 'great' means in the context of boxing.

Some say it is down to how many consecutive title defences a guy has, some say longest reign, some say most knockouts, and some say what they got up to outside of the ring.

    Now do you understand?

I understand what you are trying to say,

but your confused, just like all the people who misuse the word great.

The context in which you are trying to use great in is incorrect, and this is whats causing the disparities here.

Its not a "boxing term" you just dont understand what it means, and are trying to fit a word to an incorrect definition.

There is no boxer ever that has had the cultural impact Ali has had. And that is his greatness.

You can argue boxers have better resumes or skills, thats your prerogative. But in terms of actual "greatness" there is no one more so than Ali.

Ah right, now I understand, so the greatest boxer of all time is decided on cultural impact?

I never said 'great' was a boxing term, it is a universal term, but here it is being used in the context of boxing.

I'm not sure you're grasping what I am trying to say.
