These websites need editors. they're constantly making typos. With that being said. Alvarez has fought 12 times b/n 178 and 202 lbs. So he is a lightheavy/cruiserweight. Top 15 in the WBO means nothing. It's a gauranteed world title win for Warren's boy and the only "world" honors in his shrinking stable. What'd you guys expect?
BTW alexeev fought this bum and disposed of em' in 4 rds. We'll see what enzo does w/ em'

I did not hear of Hide declining the fight. Mac should fight the #15 contender for no belt. When Banks comes back, then continue or cancel the fight all together.

Then how about they postpone the fight until they get an actual contender or cancel it all together. This makes it clear that the purpose of the fight is simply to hand Maccarinelli back the title.

Joe defended this title for over a decade. No one seems to have a problem with that..

I do. Calzaghe's skills aside, I can't stand the revisionist history. No one took the belt seriously around the time that he first won it and for years afterward, so the "ten year world champ" label is farcical. The only reason the WBO is considered to be a major championship these days is because the other sanctioning bodies continue to disgrace themselves and the sport. Does any one remember that this is still the sanctioning body that kept advancing a dead fighter in the rankings for one of its world titles? :-(

They already lost Nicky Cook off the London bill, they couldn't lose Maccarinelli as well. And they can hardly cancel the bill as it's propping up the British end of SBO's PPV with the De La Hoya and Pacquiao bill included.

So Maccarinelli had to fight someone. Now, whether the fight is sanctioned as a title fight is down to the WBO, but I don't think any boxer is going to turn down the chance to pick up a title in the same fight that they were going to have to fight anyway.

Then they should make the title an eliminator and give Enzo Mac another shot in a few months. It's a disgrace to put a "world championship" up for grabs under these circumstances.

Good this i was the response i was hoping for. Now tell that to Joes legions of fans.:smooch

Does anyone here remember there 1st heavyweight champ? Francesco Damiani it was. They made him there champ back in 89 when Tyson was already unified. I think he made the worlds top 10 but no fan of boxing even knew who he was. The guy had a completely non descript career and won the inaugural title against a journeyman fighter who was even lesser known than Damiani. Back then NO ONE took the belt seriously or Damiani. Not long after that he stepped up in class and got the daylights battered out of him by a young Ray Mercer.

Frank Warren chose the same WBO path of least resistance for posters boys like Eubank Benn and Naz. He has purposefully chosen this belt as historically there rankings were nothing short of a disgrace. There champions again have always been the weakest out of the IBF WBA and WBC. I mean how was it possible that a bum like Freeman Barr was made Joes mandatory? For year upon year one "mandatory" after the next was fed to him and even his voluntary defences were garbage. BUT yet still Warren and his stable cling on to the belt. Why? Because its great business for himself and his fighters and as always the fans get ****ed over and out.

I mean look at Pavlik Lockett? HOW did Lockett become the number 1? Lockett subsequently got a nice pay day and called it quits. Turns out that was all he ever fought for as he couldnt make no real cash off the WBU to keep all his propertys afloat..

How did Mike Jennings get to fight for the WBO against Cotto? This has to be one of the most stunning mismatches of the century bearing in mind Jennings has won nothing better than the WBU and is at best domestic comp only.

The entirety of Joes tenure as there champ in my opinion were essentially the **** all years. It started with an old Eubank and ended with a green rookie in Jeff Lacy. That "title reign" will surely take some beating.

The WBA took the absolute **** when they invented the "Super" champion title. There was a time when Sven Ottke held the WBA and the IBF after beating Byron Mitchell. Subsequently Mundine won the vacant "regular" title. Now if Joe had fought Mundine and unified - as he held the WBO belt at the time - what would have that made Sven? Or Joe for that matter? The super duper champ?

Even the WBC took the **** with this Emeritus nonsense. Kostya was awarded it as he was inactive for months and sitting on all the titles slowly being stripped of them one by one. This allowed Gatti to fight for the vacant belt against Branco. That way the WBC had two nice little earners off the back of Gatti`s trilogy with Ward and Gatti had an easy number, a route to a title, and some nice $$$ to make. Meanwhile the "title" landscape was left in confusion at 140.

The only ones who didnt participate in this farce were the IBF. But hey they were being investigated and prosecuted by the FBI. DKP suffered the same fate for amending there rankings illegally as well as having a stranglehold on the title. Funny that as Larry Holmes was there inaugural heavyweight champ. No one paid his IBF title any mind whatsoever. But Larry and DKP got paid.. and again the fans lost out.

Frank tried to sanction Enzo vs Ezra Sellers. Despite Sellers being retired for over a year and well out of shape. The BBofC refused to sanction the bout. We given Bobby Gunn instead.. This is nothing but normal for SN or the WBO.
