My understanding is that is what is being offered to Briggs' opponent (Kingpin originally, then Carmack when Kingpin balked), not Briggs himself.

Briggs never got paid against Vitali as his manager screwed him. Had massive medical bills after that too. He's broke. Let him get into the top 15 somehow and get his last shot at some dough.

Another 1st round KO that will not get him anywhere closer to a title.

    A "body" is an understatement.

Carmack weighs more than a pair of weaning walrus calves! (or, two full-grown Charlo twins)

it's always something isn't it?! :bart
He's fighting a heavyweight, the guy's supposed to be heavy. if he would fight someone who's like 122lbs you'd find a reason to complain about that too... admit it!

    Is that a good thing?

Briggs was kind of a boring one-trick pony in his prime, two decades ago. Is there really any need to see him in 2014?

I think Briggs was a pretty exciting fighter. Had some great knockouts like vs Melton Bowen. He also fought in K-1 and scored a great KO there as well in his first fight. Cool personality.

Sadly he might. You will spot the name of Shannon Briggs in the WBA ratings.

    These are the current rankings:

WBA SUPER CHAMPION WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO UKR
    WBO-IBF CHAMPION

WBA WORLD CHAMPION RUSLAN CHAGAEV UZB
    Won Title 07-06-14

    WBC BERMANE STIVERNE
    TITLE BOXER ORGANIZATION COUNTRY
1 LUIS ORTIZ INTERIM CHAMP CUB
    2 BRYANT JENNINGS USA
    3 DEONTAY WILDER USA
    4 KUBRAT PULEV BUL
    5 LUCAS BROWNE I/C AUS
    6 TRAVIS KAUFMAN USA
    7 SHANNON BRIGGS NABA USA

As you can see, Briggs is already ranked #7 after knocking several tomato cans out. If he wins tonight, he will be #5, but Luis Ortiz got caught cheating, so he disappears from the list. Jennings will be #1, Wilder #2 and Pulev #3. If Wlad wins against Pulev (which is most likely according to most fans and bookmakers), he will drop in the rankings, which will make Shannon Briggs #3.

Either way, 2015 is going to be a big year for Briggs. He will certainly get a shot at either Chagaev or Klitschko immediately thanks to his high ranking. There is no need for him to face any top-100 fighter at the moment because he will get the opportunity gifted.

If he has to fight Chagaev, he might have even a good chance to win this. Chagaev is shot to **** and got a MD over an even more shot to **** Oquendo. Winning against Chagaev would make him the mandatory to fight Wladimir anyway.

The WBA wants this fight to happen, and the fixed scenes between Klitschko and Briggs also show us they want this fight to be hyped and to happen.

Briggs weighed in at 261 for his bout against Carmack, who has 5 losses of his 5 last fights and weighed in over 300 pound.

Personal view about Briggs - Wlad: He may not be the worst opponent for Wlad in years. Leapai, Tony Thompson 2, Mormeck were terrible fights. Briggs has a great chin, is in shape and can punch. Also the pre fight talk would be funny. However, he almost died in the ring against Vitali and might have brain damage. He actually might getting killed if he is gassed and if the ref doesn't stop him after several rounds of beatings (just like the Vitali fight).
