I've watched at least 10 bouts at these Olympics and I think I've only seen 2 body shots counted, and that's not because the fighters aren't throwing them, the judges just seem to be ignoring them.
Because 3 judges aren't saying the same punch within a 3 second window. It's not the judges, it's the criteria to score it. I can tell you, actually boxing amateur and what not; that your best bets for scored points are from center ring with straight punches, and you need to be at the right angle where multiple judges can see it.
That's bull****, and you are willing to accept it. Why? You know the rules, so why the hell are you saying they should ONLY fight in the center of the ring to score points. Fact is, points are missed all too often. That is unfair to amatuer boxers. It hurts the sport. :-(
Well, the AIBA is talking about changing the way the scoring works, but I honestly can't think of a better basis for a system than we have now. Updating it or modifying it is find, but the point system works. And I'm not saying they should only fight in the middle of the ring; I'm saying that's your best bet for scoring points, as opposed to being on the ropes or in a corner.
